Fishing
« on: June 27, 2009, 12:07:40 PM »
I need a CLOSE little spot to take my kiddos and drop a line in the water.  Any ideas?  I'm thinking Anna or Van Alstyne.  The new feed store here in Anna sells minnows, so I'm hoping there's a nifty little spot I don't know about somewhere close.  Any one know a good little pond or creek to fish from?  No pier required, just mostly snake free.  Smiley

it is off of 455. There is parking and an entrance right beside the Autozone or you can park at Brookshires and enter there. (East of Autozone or behind Brookshires, closer to Rattan side)

if carrying several poles and gear i would suggest parking in the lot east of Autozone. It is much closer to the pond/dock.

We just went fishing last week w/ our little one (4 yrs old) at a great spot on Lavon.  Has a pier and restrooms, and camping ground w/ playground.  Clear Lake Park, it's at the South end of the big peninsula.  Took 30 mins to get there, not that bad.

Has anyone fished at Natural Springs Park yet?  How is it?

We caught about 20 Bass last week, daughter caught the first one within 5 mins!

We've thought about fishing at Natural Springs, but weren't sure about all the pond weed.  Can you really get a hook into the water?

with all the rain we have gotten lately, it has really helped with the moss.  but you still pretty much have to fish top water baits if you don't want a wad of moss brought back after every single cast.

Are any of the fish at Natural Springs park edible? Last time I was there the pond was covered in green and looked unsafe.

I believe that in Texas, public waters are catch and release only.  That's what it said when I got my license anyways.

Nope.  A few are, but most are not.  They must adhere to standard rules & regs about size and limits.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/fish/general_rules/

Quote
Possession of Fish taken from Public Water

•Any fish caught must be taken by legal means and methods. Fish caught and immediately released are not considered to be in your possession. Any fish not immediately released that are retained by using any type of holding device such as stringer, cooler, livewell, or bucket are considered in your possession and must adhere to established protected length and bag limits. While fishing, it is illegal to be in possession of more fish than the daily bag limit or fish that are within a protected lenth limit.
•It is unlawful to possess a finfish of any species taken from public water, except broadbill swordfish, shark, or king mackerel that has the head or tail removed until such person finally lands the catch on the mainland, a peninsula, or barrier island not including jetties or piers and does not transport the catch by boat. Broadbill swordfish, shark, and king mackerel may have the head or tail removed but the carcass must remain intact - the fish may not be filleted.
•Any fish taken from public water and landed by boat or person in Texas must adhere to the protected length limits and daily bag and possession limits established for those fish in Texas regardless of the state or country in which they were caught.
•The bag limit for a guided fishing party is equal to the total number of persons in the boat licensed to fish or otherwise exempt from holding a license minus each fishing guide and fishing guide deckhand multiplied by the bag limit for each species harvested.

Eisenhower state park located on Lake Texoma offers fishing without a license, just $3 a day to enter for adults, they will even loan you a pole and tackle if you need it.

take 75 north to Dennison exit, sign says Eisenhower state park. Follow the road...

This issue has been resolved.  We now fish at Lake Bonham and Bonham State Park.  :)
