The first one of my kids, 6yr old, to get sick saw the doctor.  Doc tested for flu (it was the flu) and said that pretty much everybody that has gotten the flu in North Texas has gotten H1N1.  I have two home sick now.  The 6yr old is breezing right through it.  The 8yr old is one sick little kid.  He's on his 3rd day of 104 and has had some difficulty breathing.   His case has really scared me at times.  We were given no Tamiflu...only Tylenol/Motrin and a night time cough syrup.  But it looks like they are getting better.  Hope my third kiddo doesn't get it that bad.  Tired from lack of sleep, tired of feeling tense and worried, and I'm tired of having three kids cooped up at home.  If we come down with the regular flu next....

Oh man, I feel for you. I hope your family gets better soon.

actually Rattan sent home a flyer last night about when the school is offering them.

Those were the regular flu shots, not swine flu shots...

I was at the dr office yesterday for something unrelated to flu and it was packed with people with the flu not suprisingly.  What did surprise me is that a large number of people were testing positive for both type a and b.  The doctor said that its unusual that the regular flu is making the rounds so early this year.

The school didn't inform the parents that swine flu was going around in the schools?

Well, will the school be informing the parents as to when the kids will be getting the swine flu vaccinations at school?  Preferably, before the kids get them?

Panic monger.

im sure if they get confirmed cases of swine flu at schools they will be letting parents know.  everybody is panicking with swine flu and more people still die from regular flu.  swine flu syptoms are mostly upper respiratory -- with a bad cough.  so just keep an eye on your kids.  hand washing is still the best way to prevent.  and the vaccs that are being offered at school are not for swine flu.  we won't have swine flu vaccs in north texas until the end of october.  the people who have died from the flu already have had some other heath issues that made the flu worse.  panicking isnt going to make anything better..  swine flu is here and regular flu is here a little early so we just have to take precautions.  worrying wont change whats gonna happen.
sorry for the vent, but everyone running around with arms flailing screaming about swine flu is gonna drive me crazy

I will worry about possible side effects if the vaccine ever becomes available.  Where are the supposed mandatory vaccine boot camps at you were talking about?   Honestly it seems like it is going around so bad that by the time they ever get the vaccine out for the general public we will already have had the flu!

Exactly.  No one in my family will be getting the swine flu vaccine even when/if it becomes available.  I am the only one in this house that isn't in perfect health and I can't get the shot anyway, so we will be flu shot free as usual.

BTW, my pediatrician is very mainstream and she isn't recommending it for my kids either (due to it being rushed through) so no need to bash me!  :P

I apologize if it seemed as if my post was directed at everyone that was not my intention.  I have not made up my mind yet on getting the swine flu shot provided it even becomes available before my family catches the swine flu.  I just find some of the conspiracy theories of mandatory forced vaccines rather ironic seeing as how there is such a shortage however i an sure there is another conspiracy behind the shortages too!

I think we all need to make the most informed decisions that we can.  I know what is right for my family, but that doesn't mean it is for yours.

I don't think your post offended anyone, but hell, isn't that what this forum is for?

I had kids sick with the flu last week.  I did what my mom and grandmother before me did.  I watched my kids very closely and did what I could (cool wash cloths and lots of liquids).  That's really all it took.  I didn't even use Tylenol and the cough syrup the doctor prescribed very much.  If you are normally healthy, then yes, you'll feel like total crap with whatever flu you get, but you'll live.

This clip from FoxNews is of an Infectious Disease specialist admitting that he will NOT give the vaccine to his own children due to the high risks associated with the adjuvants used in their manufacturing.
