Drug Runners
« on: January 24, 2010, 04:49:40 PM »
So the wife brought up a really good point today.  Why doesn't Anna PD get some 4-wheelers to chase down the drug runners?

Friday night about 12:30am I was out front and saw a guy on a 4-wheeler buzz by headed north on Niagara.  Then 10 minutes later another one passes by.  Could have been the same guy that made the block or different one.  About 5 minutes later I see a police/sheriff car coming up Niagara with red & blues driving real slow.  He turned west onto Victoria rather than proceeding north.  Shortly after, I saw a police car cross Niagara on Victoria east to west with no headlights on.  A bit later one of them came up Niagara spotlighting peoples yards.  He turned on Victoria like the earlier one.  Then I saw one come back from that direction spotlighting and turn south on Niagara again.  None of them ever went north on Niagara but I have no doubt what they were looking for.

The drug runners use the 4-wheelers because they can go off-road and get away.  So back to the original thought.  Why doesn't the PD trade in a spare police car, buy a couple of 4-wheelers, and put the pinch on these guys?

Chief Jenks absolutely hates motorcycle patrols due to safety issues, so I wonder if this would fall under the same area of concern.  Beyond that, I wonder how they would get the 4 wheelers around town.

Not poopoo-ing your ideas, just throwing questions out there.

Carpet bombing with napalm is a whole hell of a lot more effective than 4-wheelers.

You are correct monster addict.  I removed the allegation above because I don't know it for a fact (except for the fact he came by the house Saturday morning).  But I do know part of the reason he's not in Anna is for the same allegation by others, or so he says.

And red, safety was my first thought.  I suspect workman's comp would have a thing or two to say about it.  But it would definitely put them on level playing field with the perps.  You know, kinda like when police started driving souped up muscle cars and carrying semi-automatic weapons.  If the crooks didn't have these things, the police would probably still be riding horses and carrying six shooters.  :D

I realized not to long ago that I hadn't seen his dad drive by and wave in awhile.

Fred- I am not disagreeing with you at all!  Part of being a cop is giving up some of your personal safety for others.  I didn't enlist in the military thinking I would be as safe as the rest of my family, and I am pretty sure my brother feels the same way as a small town cop.  I think the feasibility of it here in Anna is reduced by the size of our PD more than anything else...

Red, I hate his family is dealing with this as much as anyone.  But when I have to hang out guarding our vehicles/house with a 12ga because something tells me tonight may be the night, I guess we all must suffer a little.  Hey, at least I got to see all the 4-wheeler action.  I thought about stepping into the street to stop them if they came back by, but I was afraid I might get myself in trouble.   :-\

I think we need to figure out a way to make your vehicles zap the crap out of anyone who touches them once you go to bed. That should make things interesting.  ;)  I will have to work on a plan for the house...

Maybe then I can throw the new yappity-yap-yap neighborhood dog on your new "car alarm" and give it a little zing.  Could solve all our problems!

BTW, I know what street the 4wheelers are coming from, I will see if anyone knows which house.  The fact that they are even riding 4 wheelers down the street is enough to make the cops look for them as it violates a few laws.

I ride 4-wheelers out at my folks. It doesn't make me a drug runner.

I am still confused about all of this. Anna has a drug runner problem?

I knew 75 was a hot spot out here. I did not realize that this was an in-town sort of thing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one completely lost here....

I see people on 4 wheelers from time to time, and not once has 'drug runner' come to mind.  And why the talk of the 12 gauge??

Similar to my idea, but I want them shocked outside of my car to avoid that unappealing odor...
