Hi Downen!

I'm definitely going to give an Arbonne basket for the silent auction. My mother and I will also do a give-away of some kind from our new coffee business.

I also talked with Luscombe Farm Specialty Foods, and Leslie is going to donate a gift basket of her jalapeno jellies! I told Jennifer D that y'all ought to ask Tony (now at Warrior Tire) to donate some of his vodka pasta sauce. He is still making it for sale to those of us who fell in love with it at Tony's Deli.

Diana,

Thank you so much!!  We are really excited for this event, and looking forward to working with local business people.  Jennifer told me that y'all had spoken.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or Jennifer at any time.  All of the basic info is on the website as well as a Facebook event.

Thanks again!
Downen

I like to stick my finger in Chili then pop it in my mouth to see how spicy it is.

When I was in STL once, I saw people put peanut butter in chili.

When I was in STL once, I saw people put peanut butter in chili.

Yes, some folks put it in as a "Secret Ingredient" probably to help thicken it --- but this needs to be disclosed now due to the prevalence of peanut allergies. It is also used in some enchilada sauces.
As a parent of a peanut allergic child, I've had to learn to ask about this very thing everywhere we go. We simply do not go to restaurants where nuts are regularly used in cooking like Thai and Indian cuisine. It is scary, though, when the risk is not so clear -- like in chili. Thanks for the reminder!

This was an individual I observed doing this to his individual bowl, not the way it was served.

Understood, but it has come up in other chili competitions I've attended.

It is fairly common practice to put it in chili and enchilada sauce.  Our son once had a nasty reaction after eating some rice off of his daddy's enchilada place at Poncho and Lefty's in Rowlett.  It took a call to the allergist and then the restaurant to figure out what we had done wrong, another favorite place was then off the menu.   :'(
