Anna Athletes "Boot Camp" Style Group Training
« on: October 24, 2008, 05:47:21 PM »
Hey guys.

I just wanted to point out that the Anna Athletes will be meeting up at Slayter Creek Park at 8am on Saturday, November 1st.  This is a great opportunity for beginners, intermediate, or advanced trainees to get some great Army style group training from a Certified Personal Trainer and Army combat veteran.

Starting off with a warmup, stretch, exercise session, and cooldown all done military style.  We'll end with a 2 mile backpack jog with as much weight as you can carry.  (Backpacks and weight are optional)  The jog will also be done in the military fashion, complete with cadence call.  If you can't keep up the pace, just do your best and try to keep your own pace and finish.

Membership in Anna Athletes is free, $15 per person is the cost of the event.

You can check out http://groups.myspace.com/annaathletes to join.  You'll get fitness & nutrition tips at no charge to you, as well as info on the next Boot Camp.

Or, just show up Saturday and get signed up!

Update...

Due to popular demand, we've decided to hold a Boot Camp on most Saturdays, beginning November 29th!  Here's some more info...

Anna Athletes is a health & fitness club based in Anna, TX, from Win @ Life Fitness and Nutrition. Membership at http://groups.myspace.com/annaathletes is encouraged and free. We'll discuss aspects of health & wellness, supplements, proper diet, motivation, and more.

Almost every Saturday we get together for a "Boot Camp" style training session. Each session is $15 per person. We have both a beginner's level training session and an advanced session, but you are welcome to attend both as the sessions may be self-adjusted to your level of difficulty. The main difference in the sessions is that the beginner level is a two mile backpack hike, while the intermediate/advanced level is a two mile backpack jog.

This training is adjustable to your comfort and experience level. We'll hold a formation at 8am, and then do a warmup, stretching session, and exercises all military style. Then your Certified Personal Trainer and Army combat veteran Rob Duncan (that's me) will lead you on a 2 mile hike/run. I'll be calling cadence, just like the Drill Sergeant's do in Basic Training. We'll also be hiking/jogging with (optional) weighted backpacks with as much weight as you can handle for the duration.

Bring your own backpack. A great way to add weight is with bottles of water, which are good to have with you anyway. Each bottle of water weighs about a pound. Remember, weighted backpacks are optional!

At the end of our jog we will have a cooldown session, and of course, drink some of that water! If you cannot keep up, just try to finish and go at your own pace. We also have a Registered Nurse that will be on site for most events.

Hope to see you there! We'll try to have training sessions almost every Saturday.

NEXT INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED SESSION: SATURDAY, NOV. 29TH
NEXT BEGINNERS SESSION: SATURDAY, DEC. 6TH

Sure, you need that jog/run to negate all the beer you drink!  ;D

Oh wait, it will negate that?  NEVERMIND!

Oh back in the day of drinking till 4:30AM, showing up plowed to formation, running 5 miles!  Best hangover cure ever!

It was also good motivation for the rest of the company.  We always ran in the back of the formation for the consideration of others (Sweating out the booze wasn't a runner friendly smell).  Kept people from falling back cause they knew if they did they would be behind us smelling the vaporized alcohol.  Good times! good times!

Yeah, you are a big ole liar!  You used to go to sick call and get an IV and a nap.  I was the one sweating out the booze!!!

Oh, the good old days.  ;)

I think I only did that once or twice, not my fault you weren't smart enough to pull it off that day..   Regardless I could run further and faster than anyone else there (drunk or sober) so kiss my arse...

Man, I've been there too.  You are not kidding about the stench from sweating out that booze.  There's something to be said for going from an almost unconcious state of drunkeness to a 5 miler before the sun comes up.

Hope to see you there!
