Anna July 4th on July 10th?

In the paper last week it said City Council approved having the city July 4th celebration on July 10th.

Are they really doing this on a Thursday night, or did I read wrong?  ???

Nevermind. I was looking at June. It is on a Saturday, but still weird not to celebrate on July 4th.

I'm writing in E and Draxor for the next election.  Heck, they are usually at the meetings anyway.  Might as well let them vote.

I really do hope that you guys come enjoy the celebration.  We have lots of great things planned from a 5K and family fun run, BBQ Cook off, Ice Cream Eating Contest (Brain Freeze at your own risk), Street Dance, Games, Fireworks etc.  FUN FUN FUN!

There are lots of towns and cities that have their celebrations either the weekend before or after (Allen being one of them) I just don't understand why our little town gets in such an uproar.  Come out enjoy all that is there for families to be a part of and get to know and meet more of your neighbor and fellow citizens!

I like to think its because we're all very passionate about our town.  Its not just a "small town" we're a highly integrated small town.  We're involved.  Sure there's a little infighting here and there, but when brass tacks are involved we band together.

I like that, and don't want it to go away.

I plan my 4th of July celebrations at least a year in advance to maximize my celebratory efficiency.  Some days I hit two cities depending on which band is playing where and when.

Unfortunately, I'm already planning to be in Allen on the 10th.

Does anyone know what the plan for next year is?

Ok, so those of you who know me might find it difficult to believe, but I'm NOT trying to start a fight here.

That being said, and hoping I wouldn't have to ask this question here, I even went back and re-read this: http://www.annatexasforum.com/index.php/topic,4173.0.html but I'm still at a loss.

WHY ARE THERE TWO FIREWORKS DISPLAYS IN ANNA?

I thought since we had one on the 4th we wouldn't have to have another?

Yes I understand one was understaffed and then it wasn't - AYSA & GACC - got it.  But with all that seemingly (this is where I'm fuzzy) resolved...

WHY ARE WE HAVING TWO AGAIN?

or

WHY CAN'T WE JUST HAVE ONE?
