Looking to start a Board Game group
« on: December 01, 2010, 01:28:14 PM »
As the title states, I'm interested in putting together a board game group in Anna (or thereabouts).  I wanted to find out what kind of interest there is, and thought the forums would be a good place to start.

For those not familiar with what is happening in modern board games, in recent decades there has been a renaissance in board game design.  Gone are the days of toiling away at an endless game of Monopoly, or mindlessly rolling and moving.  Driven by an explosion of "Eurogames" and great publishers in the states, today's board games are well designed, exciting and involved.  To get an idea of the board game hobby, I recommend checking out boardgamegeek.com.

Over the last several years, I have put together a modest collection of 100+ games, including top eurogames, card games, war games, and more. Unfortunately, I have more games than people to play them with, and my poor games are languishing.  There is a great board gaming group in Dallas, but getting out there from Anna is becoming more and more difficult.

I would love to get my games on the table more often, so I was hoping to find some local people who either already play board games, or would like to learn more about the hobby.  All are welcome.

I'd be looking at starting up in the new year, with 1-2 meetings per month.  Perhaps one weekend and one week night.  So, if you are interested, please respond and let me know.  Feel free to ask any questions.

Might?  I sense reservation.  Let me assure you that it WILL be fun, and ensuring fun is my primary focus.  Despite my pedantic online personality, I'm an amiable, easy-going guy.

Oh, and there will probably be beer.  Good beer.  Just puttin' that out there.

I drink beer.  And will do just about anything put in front of me while I am drinking beer.  If it's board games, so be it!

I work in Anna (Pate Rehabilitation, a brain injury facility).  I plan activities for these adult individuals and think this would be a great activity/outing for them, if you are possibly interested in having them attend.  Where would you hold the game night?  I am also looking for other events/activities that they could attend.  Any ideas?

Don't think I'd get into the war games, etc, but how about a game of 42?  Now we're talking.    ;)
