I'm pretty sure all you guys that travel southbound on 75 were probably aware of the construction...just an FYI that it will be getting worse until the area of Wilmeth is completed!  Happy Driving  ;D  I also have been told, and signage is posted that Highway 5 south of Hwy 121 to FM543 will also be closed for about 2 months for the bridge replacement that’s been under construction for some time

Wilmeth Road Closes at U.S. 75 Monday
Construction will have bridge closed for six months

McKINNEY– Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will close Wilmeth Road beginning Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 in order to begin the reconstruction of U.S. 75 at that location. The bridge is expected to be closed through June in order to demolish the bridge, build Wilmeth Road at grade through the intersection with U.S. 75, and then build the U.S. 75 overpass at Wilmeth Road.

In conjunction with the closure of Wilmeth, beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2012 through 6 a.m. Saturday morning, both directions of U.S. 75 will be closed at Wilmeth for demolition of the bridge over the highway. The demolition of the bridge will continue over the frontage roads  on Wednesday, Feb. 15,2012 beginning at 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. Thursday morning.

On Saturday, February 18, 2012 northbound U.S. 75 will be closed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday morning for bridge beams to be set.

During the bridge closure, traffic will be detoured north and south along the U.S. 75 frontage roads, cross over the highway at the next crossing and return to Wilmeth. Westbound traffic on Wilmeth will travel north on the frontage road, cross over the highway at Bloomdale Road and then travel south back to Wilmeth. Eastbound traffic will travel south on the frontage road, make a U-turn U.S. 380 and then travel north back to Wilmeth.

Texas Sterling Construction Co. of Houston is the contractor on this$25 million project to reconstruct and widen U.S. 75 from four to eight mainlanes and six frontage road lanes between U.S. 380 and BloomdaleRoad in McKinney.

This is one of five projects either underway, nearing completion or just starting up on the Central Expressway corridor through McKinney from SH 121 to Melissa Road. This project is expected to be substantially complete in the fall of 2012.

Message boards will be placed before major lane closures begin to notify drivers of the closures.

TxDOT would like to thank area drivers for their patience and cooperation as crews work diligently to complete this vitalproject as soon, and as safely, as possible.

For additional transportation related information please visit the TxDOT Web site www.txdot.gov or follow us on Twitter@txdotdallaspio.

Praise be to Him who provides me a commute NORTH on 75!   ;D

I may start buying groceries in Sherman.  Then my journey toward the darkside will be complete!

What planet are these planners on? Close Hwy 5 while 75 is under construction?
Well, you can always take 455 west to Preston then south. Only a 55 minute commute to Plano.

5 has only been shut down between 121 and FM 543 because of bridge replacement ,but that is still inconvient. When construction really gets underway on 75 between 380 and 121- Melissa there are other county roads that snake through but only if you don't mind rock dust!

I read that the detour is to go to 75 between 121 and 543. Isn't that a cluster f already? Was the bridge on 5 that bad that it couldn't wait for 75 to be done? I'm sure that that will be done in, uhm, the 5 years it took for a simple intersection at 380 to be done? OK, 6 years. And 455 will take 8 years to get done. Can we please hire some Chinese construction workers who could get this crap done in a decent time? And cheaper?

No, I'm not a bitter old man yes, I'm a bitter old man.

Why delay a project that is nearly complete (bridge on route 5) for a project that is barely getting started?
