Bed Redo
« on: July 21, 2008, 11:28:42 PM »
My son has a metal frame twin bed--which used to be the lower half of his bunk bed.  It's a nice looking thing--surprisingly so for a metal bed.  The head and footboard are slightly rounded at the top with metal cross hatching inside the frame.

Anyway, at the moment, the bed is its original navy and yellow color, but I would like to repaint it in black.  However, I'm not sure I want it glossy black.  I'd like to give it a bit more sophistication and get it textured to simulate wrought iron maybe--like a rough paint coat.  We're trying to make his room feel more grown up, and his new desk has already been sanded and primed for glossy black paint.  So, a black bed would complete the look.

So my question is...has anyone ever used the textured spray paints on the market?  Comments about them?

We used the wrought iron on our railing at our old house, some tard had painted white  :o and rather and strip it all I just repainted it.  It worked really well.  Just make sure you sand your son's bed so that the paint can adhere.

Good Luck!

Good to know!  Thanks--You hate to invest in the paint and go to all the trouble if it's not going to work.

You could also use a flat automotive black primer or sealer and you won't necessarily have to sand. But thats on a case by case basis. Theres tons of good stuff out there, and I would be glad to lend any expertise I may have on the subject. :)
