Getting Started
« on: September 16, 2007, 07:50:46 PM »
Well, I guess since I asked for it, I might as well start it.

I was hoping to get together a Knitting/Crochet group that would get together every so often. Basically just knit and talk.

There is a stitch 'n bitch group that meets in downtown dallas, and that is just way too far to go.  I was hoping to get something started closer to Anna.  Maybe meet someplace either here in Anna, or in McKinney.

Any takers?

I would be up for a beginners group!  or some advanced who are willing to help us beginners!

You have picked one of the few things (crafty) that I know NOTHING about!

Sounds like a good idea though.  I know there is a sewing circle that meets in The Falls.  I think they are established though or I would be trying to get in on that one...

At Michaels in Mckinney I know that Tuesday night there was such a class.  You could pay for a few lessons and after a few lessons you could come and not pay anything.  It was a club that they had going on.  Now I dont know if they still do this.
But yeah I would like to join.

Why pay?  I can teach people to knit or crochet if they are interested.
As for a sewing circle?  I was thinking more of a quilting bee.  But that involved hand sewing.

Well the nice thing about the Michaels thing is after I took my 4 classes I could come back and just hang out and knit for two hours every Tuesday and get help if I needed.  But at the same time because we were there we got a discount for all our knitting stuff.

But I can understand what you are saying.  I was telling you about what I knew around Mckinney.  Yes it was a club but you had to take a few classes first.
But not paying works for me! :)

I have not knitted or crocheted in a long time. I have gotten into quilting.  But I could bring needle work along.  You need day or night?

Needlework would be more then welcome. It might inspire me to start embroidery again.

I need evenings myself.  I work in Plano and have school on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings.

Otherwise, I'm pretty open.

One thing that needs to be decided: where to meet.

We could all sit round the pool area as long as weather permits. otherwise, we could swap houses.  Whoever hosts could serve milk and cookies. lol   I personally prefer coffee.  But snacks of some sort.

Wouldn't it be great to have a party room at the pool area for just such things?  Then we could add a weight/exercise room and have our own instructors and then we could add massage and coffee bars later.  But it would be nice to have a group place year round.

I will offer to host the first get together as long as everyone is comfortable with a lot of kids, cats and dogs :)

I would like to start with crocheting/knitting.  Everyone in my family has crocheted and I would love to pick it up.  I know the beginners basics and that is it.

We make animals out of cucumbers and matchsticks.  We could learn someone interested.  Melvin thinks we should charge.  I just smack him in the head with fresh possum pelts they are covered in stank.

I love the idea of a quilting bee, but I doubt time will permit until my 8 month old say --- enters Pre-K! lol. For a while, I've wanted to make a quilt from all the t-shirts we've acquired over the years. They are very sentimental, and I've seen some cool quilts made from t-shirts.
Ask me how I can help you feel your best.

We have a house full of kids, I am sure that I can bribe one of them (or my DH) into playing with the baby while you sit and stitch with us :)
