Ant Invasion
« on: October 14, 2009, 07:02:38 PM »
I was standing around watching my kid's football practice today and I couldn't help but notice that there are about 100 ant hills on the old field behind Sonic.  Several kids got bitten after running through insect strongholds.

The field could use some attention PDQ. Whose responsibility is it to maintain a safe venue for the kids?  Is this an AYSA thing, or AISD?

The ants are everywhere - I drove down 367 today off of I-75 and every couple of feet there is a huge anthill along those yards on the right hand side.

I know, my back yard is inundated right now -- for that reason, I don't let the kids roll around in the back yard. :)

Got them real bad too. I just treated with poison all around the perimenter of my slab, spot treated the hills, and going to broadcast the entire yard next. All it takes is a couple of ant bites on my girls and I have declared war on the ants in my yard. I will stop at no expense.

FYI - the field maintenance that is the responsibility of AYSA is for mowing it at the beginning of August.  Once school starts the AISD takes that over as well.  Any spraying of pesticides, weed killer, etc. has to be provided by the school because of liability issues.  So yes the ants were a crazy mess but it would not have mattered if they sprayed anyways because this weird amount of rain we have been getting would have washed the treatment right off.  So that is why it has not been sprayed  ;D
