AYSA Awards ceremony
« on: October 14, 2009, 06:42:45 PM »
Has anyone else heard that they have scheduled this for Halloween night? From what I have been told the two people who planned this event do not celebrate Halloween and refuse to change the date. I thought this was to celebrate the kids not the adults. Most if not all the children involved with this celebrate Halloween and look forward to it. I say come on people, put the kids first....

Yeah, we're not going because its scheduled on the 31st. We've got other plans... like trick or treating.

There's a difference between not celebrating something, and not being an ass.  It pains me that some people still do not know the difference.

I know my daughters cheerleading squad is planning to schedule there own little party and awards on a different date due to the same reason.  I couldn't believe it was being scheduled on Halloween to begin with.

G-Ma,
After many of us talked to the AYSA group, they are NOT having their awards day on Oct 31st.

As of now I do not think there are plans to reschedule.

If they're not planning to reschedule, then they might as well have it anyway for those without other plans.

Everyone on my daughters squad was asked to give $5 towards the cost of it prior to it being canceled.  I'm guessing almost no one going means no money to hold it for the people that may have been able to go.  Not that we were planning to attend.

One would think that it would be pretty linear.

I just wanted to clarify some things so everyone would understand what was going on.  Last year at the end of season party we had a haunted hayride that was a blast and the kids said they wanted to do it again next year (now being this year); if I did not hear it once, I heard it a thousand times...even from parents.  So when planning the party we took that into account.  Not that we don't celebrate Halloween which is ridiculous but we were trying to plan something really fun for the boys and girls.  The $5 that was donated from each child was going to be used to purchase the food to feed ALL the FAMILIES, so a $5 meal for a family sounded pretty good.  Now the coaches who collected that should use it to go to their own individual parties.  We were going to cook everything and have it all ready for the teams, parents, siblings, etc.  We also had planned another haunted hayride, games for the kids (where they were going to receive candy - like a carnival type of thing), bounce houses, pumpkin painting, costume contest, etc.  It was going to be a huge Halloween party.  So to say we were not thinking of the kids or that we were doing it on that night because we don't celebrate Halloween was wrong.  We chose that night because come Monday after Halloween all the kids move on to another sport.  Glowfest was the next weekend and pretty soon you are into Thanksgiving.  I heard so much griping before hand about the date so we were going to move it, then I heard so much griping about moving it to the next date, that I cancelled it...then when I cancelled it I heard so much griping about it being cancelled.  It is hard to please 200+ kids and parents so please when you are upset about these things please remember your child was one in 200+ kids that was being thought of at the time.  We have to look at the whole not each kid individually or we would get nothing done.

Thanks!
