I just wanted to clarify some things so everyone would understand what was going on.

Thanks!

We appreciate everything you guys do -- thanks for the time and energy you put into allowing our kiddos to play ball.

My kid had a BLAST this year playing football for the 1st time.

Ok so my grandsons had there ceremony at Momma Mias. The sad thing is that they got no trophy's.. There coach says the AYSA refused to pay for them.. Can anyone please tell me where I can purchase trophies for them.. It seems sad that they will have nothing but pictures and jersey to show they played..

I think there is a trophy store in McKinney, I will see if I can find the details.

I thought that football included trophies, they have in the past.  Our football coach hasn't asked us for trophy money, I certainly hope he isn't paying for them out of his pocket.  I know we had to pay for Cheer trophies, but whatever, as long as the girls get one.  I am trying to keep all my feelings about AYSA and those involved to myself on this thread.

AYSA has never provided trophies except for last year because which we had a sponsor.  So to say that we have given them in the past is not true.  There is not one sport that receives trophies from AYSA.  In Soccer we pay fees to that league that includes a trophy.  Baseball and softball only get trophies if they win the end of season tournament, allstars, etc.  Basketball had medals because of the fees paid to the league they are in.  Football and cheer - I can personally state that this year with cheer and football that uniforms, equipment, insurance, maintenance fees (for use of fields), gym fees, etc. we were in the hole with the $75 per child fee.  So when we had the home games we actually broke even.  Please instead of just getting on here and assuming what is going on or taking info from other folks - get involved and come to the meetings.  This is where you get the information.  Trust me from those who have started coming this year (their kids are just getting involved in AYSA) they have found out what really goes on.  They said that they had heard such bad things but when they started coming they realized that most of that was not true what they were hearing.  Also many people have whatever feelings about those involved but sometimes people should step back and take a moment to say thanks because without those that are truly involved - there would be nothing here for the kids.  It is all about the kids and sometimes as adults we go way overboard.  Kind of like thinking we don't celebrate Halloween, that we have always gotten trophies, or that we never think about the kids.  If you want things changed come to the meetings!!

Sorry, one more thing.  If you were to go and purchase that Jersey just like the players this year it would retail out about $115 - so they got jerseys that were made just like the pros and colleges for their $75.  I wanted the boys to have something special this year so I hunted and searched and worked to pull in all kinds of favors to get those boys those nice uniforms (jersey and pants) for under the $75 per child - a lot more work goes into this stuff.  Check into other leagues - they get a top when they sign up for their $150 and then the parents have to purchase the rest.  Our boys are supplied with helmet, shoulder pads, mouth pieces, jersey top, practice pants, and game pants.  I know some of our stuff is worn out and we are replacing those items as we can but this year alone we spent a lot of money just to replace what some people did not return.  So getting to the stuff that is worn out is tough.  Little by little it will be rotated out and replaced.  Overall this season was great.  Our kids did well - some went to playoffs, some did not but we have to stay positive and move on to next year.  We work hard each year to try to make a difference in our league to make the experience better - be a part of the solution, not the problem.

Perhaps, but the jerseys are really quite cool.

No, it is not because AYSA did not provide the trophies, someone else did - the sponsor.  My son and their team has received a trophy every year for every sport because I ordered the trophies and then the parents pitched in for them.  However, in doing this each year I have stopped (as of this year) because I can no longer afford to pay for more than half the trophies most of the time.  Usually I get about 1/3 of the parents to pitch in and then rest has been at my expense.  Personally, I would rather have a nice jersey instead of he trophy.  I let them wear their uniforms for purple/white fridays and then when they are too small I put them away for them in a chest or for instance their allstar/state tournament jerseys from this year I am going to frame in a shadow box with some pictures.  There are alternatives to trophies we just need to be creative.

Here is another personal note so folks will understand where I am coming from.  I would love to provide each player with some sort of keepsake for their year - personally I have tried to change it because I did not understand either.  But our organization has a lot of scholarship kids; plus we try to keep our fees down so people can afford to play so when you register your child it just does not go to the uniform - there are so many other things we have to pay for that most people fail to think of.  Let's take basketball for instance.  When you pay $75 you get a uniform that has to be double sided and shorts. a secondary accident/liability insurance policy for all players and league, new basketballs because either we don't get them back or if we do they have holes, we have to pay for use of the gyms during the week for practices and game days, plus their are league fees, and then referee fees.  When it is all said and done the $75 is used up and then the fundraiser money kicks in to cover the rest of the costs.  We have researched all the surrounding small towns and big cities - we are the least expensive and we are striving to stay that way because we know that most of our citizens are going through tough times.  So please don't think we are just mean spirited or that we just don't care because we do and we are trying to do what is right by the child, the parent, the leagues we play in, and our organization.

We want every child to be able to participate and have an enjoyable experience but for now we have to emphasis the experience and the memories and hopefully as time goes on we can figure something out for a separate award.

I'm perplexed by the expectation that trophies will be awarded to everyone every year.  Is it just me?

From what I remember as a kid, we didn't get trophies unless we won the division or a tourney or somesuch.  I have always been perplexed by every child getting a trophy.

Oh, I'm real. Real enough to defeat you! And I did it without your precious gifts, your oh-so-special powers. I'll give them heroics. I'll give them the most spectacular heroics the world has ever seen! And when I'm old and I've had my fun, I'll sell my inventions so that *everyone* can have powers. *Everyone* can be super! And when everyone's super...no one will be.
