The Anna Youth Sports Association's "Under 10" (U-10) Girls Soccer Team met for the first time this evening. The Fall 2009 season lineup has been dubbed the "Anna Purple Lightning". Headed by Coaches Barry Rudd and Jerry Amon, the Purple Lightning took to the new practice field located behind the Anna High School J.V. football field, at 6:00pm Tuesday, starting the Fall 2009 preseason. This season's lineup boasts a near even split of new talent and veteran players returning from the Spring 2009 Anna Angels team. The general vibe on the field this evening was very upbeat and encouraging, with Coach Amon commenting that the girls, in this first practice of the season,"...look better than the end of last season."

Some may think that might not be saying much, considering the Anna Angels closed the Spring 2009 season winless. However, the last few games of the Spring season saw steady score increases each game. That steady increase in on-field experience, coupled with a renewed spark in the onset of this preseason, apparently good skill retention over the Summer, and what appears to be some solid talent from our new players just might add up to a strong showing this season.

The Anna Purple Lightning will be holding bi-weekly preseason practices in preparation for their first game of the season on September 12th. Game times and match-ups have yet to be announced. Check back for future announcements and updates.
