CITY INITIATES STAGE 1 DROUGHT RESPONSE PLAN; ANNA RESIDENTS AND CUSTOMERS ASKED TO CONSERVE WATER

This summer's hot and dry weather has created record demand on the City's water resources. Due to continuing high demand the City Manager is initiating Stage One of the City's Drought Contingency and Water Emergency Response Plan. Stage 1 is intended to raise public awareness of drought or water emergency problems with a goal of reducing total water consumption during the drought or water emergency.

As part of our effort to encourage a voluntary reduction in water consumption, we want to remind all our customers to strictly observe the following current City of Anna ordinances regarding the use of lawn and landscape irrigations systems.

Irrigation of landscaped areas with an automated irrigation system must be limited to between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
Any irrigation or watering of landscaped areas that causes a substantial amount of water to fall or overflow on to impervious surfaces (such as sidewalks, streets, storm sewers, and driveways) is prohibited.
All lawn and landscape irrigation systems must be properly maintained (i.e. repair broken sprinkler heads or pipes) to prevent the waste of water.
In addition to observance of the current water conservation requirements, the City is asking all water customers to take additional steps to reduce their water consumption including the following voluntary measures.

The irrigation of lawn and landscaped areas should be limited to two days per week. In order to even out the demand on the City's water system, the City is asking customers with a street address ending in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6 or 8) to limit lawn and landscape irrigation to Sundays and Thursdays. Customers with a street address ending in an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7 or 9) are asked to limit outdoor irrigation to Saturdays and Wednesdays.
In the absence of a drip irrigation system, hand irrigation of landscaped areas should be performed by means of a hand-held hose with a shut-off nozzle, or a faucet filled bucket or watering can.
Washing vehicles should only be performed using a water hose with a shut-off nozzle.
Wait until after the current drought has passed to establish any new landscaping.
Find ways to reduce your household water use. Here are a few simple suggestions:

Sweep your driveway instead of spraying it off - Save 150 gallons a day
Water your yard early or late - Save 25 gallons a day
Cut your 15-minute shower by half - Save 18 gallons a day
Turn off your faucet while brushing - Save 6 gallons a day

If the voluntary response to Stage One does not sufficiently reduce total water demand, the City will consider initiating the Stage Two Plan which includes mandatory water restrictions.

I had to kinda chuckle when I read this...

Sweep your driveway instead of spraying it off - Save 150 gallons a day  (really? like I ever sweep or spray my drive-way...  especially not daily)
