does make you wonder
« on: September 21, 2007, 08:43:12 AM »
Is our city government so efficient that no one has any thing to discuss?

Or is our city government so bad that no one DARES broach the subject?

Or is our city government so boring that there is no point?

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I think that may be a function of your being easily bored.  You're like a chihuahua, hopping around spasticly, peeing on the carpet.

Ha!  IMHO, the problem is a lack of communication.  I've asked to setup a couple activities aimed at increasing this communication.  In 2 weeks, the council will hopefully be discussing tasking the Technology board with increasing this communication through things like e-mail, better web site, RSS feeds, and some other community participation.

Or is our city government so bad that no one DARES broach the subject?

I dare.  Oh yes.  Now that the budget is through and staff isn't going balls to the wall with numbers, these things can start to be addressed.

Or is our city government so boring that there is no point?

I'm having a good time.  Hopefully some of these activities will allow more participation and provide ways that citizens can determine how much and in what ways they want to participate.

How would you like to participate?  What can we do differently?  How much time per day / week / month can you spend participating?

Nice invocation of the Glodowg/HOA response.

Well, I'm on the technology advisory commission. You could try one of the boards, like parks, or zoning.

Excellent memory.

I do want to become involved.  However, I am committed for the next year to 2 non-city boards.  In a year I will definitely be there.  In the mean time, I will be learning, watching and familiarizing myself with city government.  "I'm watching you! alllwaaaayyyyssss watching you!"

What, if any, positions are still open??

Nope.  I actually have class on Tuesday nights so can't make it.  From what I understand there are usually openings every once in a while. You can download an application from the city site and just fill it out.
