Easement between sidewalk and street
« on: July 05, 2010, 09:11:12 PM »
I have been looking at the city ordinances and trying to find the real answer on something. A neighbor across my street has strung a potable tennis net across the road. They put one end of it on the easement in front of my house. Now the fact they never even asked us for permission kinda po's me, but beside that point, what I was wondering can I get in trouble for this. Is that just easement or my "turf"  ? I know I have to keep it mowed and it's included in my lot. Also if someone gets hit by a car can I go down for it ? I really want to be a good neighbor and don't want to complain to city or cops, but ??? Ant feedback ???
Thanks

That's a new one.  I can't believe they didn't even say something to you.  I'm curious to find out also!

That easement is for city use, not for your neighbor's.

I need somewhere to put a small trailer.  How about I just use the right of way easement in front of your house?  I realize that it is yours to maintain, but hey... why would it bother you?

Yeah, my neighbor's parents have an old motorhome they need to put somewhere, how about your easement?

Easy now.  I Was just wondering why it bothered them.
Is it permanent?

I understand that if someone was in their yard tearing it up. I guess I do not have enough information. It just seems like a grumpy old man looking for something to complain about.

If kid gets hit by car, part of the net is in my yard. Now I have had no problem with these people, don't really know them and don't want to pass judgement. And  I might be grumpy but far from old ! No it's no harm to the yard.

My trailer wouldn't be permanent, and it wouldn't tear up anything.  I shouldn't need permission.

BTW, I am grumpy and old. >:(

Seriously?

Why do you think it wouldn't bother you?

hmmmm, Just curious why you didnt say something to these people? If you were concerned, perhaps you could've gone outside & spoke to them about the situation....raised your concerns & solved the problem

First off, it is more of a concern than a problem to begin with. Untill I do my "homework" there is no need for unnecessary confrontation. I know that the kids were supervised and I did not want to be a spoil sport and ruin their day. My main concern of posting this was to get feedback and see if anyone knew if we had a liability for the easement in front of our house. No one knows or has answered that question for me on here. I'm still looking for that answer that elsewhere.

Don't know if it is the same everywhere here in Anna, but here in Tara Farms, one of my neighbors wanted to put up a carport over his driveway in his front yard.  When he asked the city about a permit, he was told that there is a 25 foot utility easement from the street in the front yard. Don't know if that helps ya or not.
