In reading the paper last night, I came across an interesting part in the story about the council meeting and the tax increase. It seems that our mayor feels he must have an office to call his own. So much so that he brings it up in open meeting to push the issue. I am pretty sure that before that meeting the matter was brought up to the City Manager. I feel certain that it was explained that space is at a premium. I guess that was not answer enough so in the meeting it had to be explained to all that space is at a premium, thus no room for an office to sit vacant except when the mayor (not full time employee) wanted to use it.
If that wasn't interesting enough, the mayor made the point that he didn't feel comfortable having documents in his home. He also stated that he needed the space to "meet with people, developers) I guess that was to pressure the need for his own space. I have but two questions... What documents is he taking home? If they are so important, why is he taking them home?
I just want to close with the simple fact that most meetings with the City, the "people, developers" meet with the departments that can answer their questions. The mayor can not answer those questions because the mayor does not review plans or manage infrastructure.
