Latest Rumor
« on: July 13, 2010, 12:10:11 PM »
It seems as though there is a possible movement to ban parking motor-homes,trailers,etc from residences! I guess we have to keep up with Richardson, Plano, McKinney etc. Well if you want to keep up with them then move back down there!

If you have a 'normal' sized driveway and yard, how can parking a motor home be ok for your neighbors?  For all we know, people are renting them out to strangers and they just run an extension cord out there.  I can understand having friends or family visiting and having like a 14 day max on it, but as for everyday type stuff, a motor home or huge trailer can look pretty bad in the neighborhood.

Some of us dont have normal sized driveways so I hope that is taken into consideration. HOAs are in place to regulate the "looks" of a neighborhood. Some of us searched high and low to avoid being regulated as such. It is a risk living in a Non-HOA community and one I am willing to take in order to keep my RV at my home. I hope the city of Anna does not make moving here a bad choice for me. Pretty soon there will be nothing left for me to do with this acre but mow it!

We have some people in our neighborhood w/ old motor homes on the street, and if the people across the street from them park on the street, you CANNOT pass through.  Simply not enough room.  Not to mention the huge blindspots and risk of hitting kids.  And w/ the economy, people renting them out is a real risk too.

We arent talking about the street. We are talking about ppls driveways. And mine is at least 60 ft long; you can park 4 Suburbans tip to tail in it; my trailer is a small speck on it. I do hope this is only a rumor. Or will be limited to the street and possibly smaller sized driveways.

I see both sides of this.  In our neighborhood, or one like Stetson Ranch without an HOA it would be a HUGE hazard to have one in the street.  If you managed to fit one in the driveway it would have to block the sidewalk, so that would be an issue too.

If you live where Scout does it would be silly to ban it, as the houses are spread out and her RV fits in the driveway with room to spare and doesn't block anyone's access.

This could get very interesting.

So you're kind of saying 'common sense' should play a factor in a person's decision to park an RV at their home?  Good luck with that.

Or the government's decision to regulate it...

No, but maybe "if your driveway is over XX feet long, or there is XX feet between the RV and a structure."  I know that nobody has any common sense anymore.  We have spent the last week and a half trying to get a terminally ill 53 year old into a nursing home but nobody will take him because he 1)isn't old enough or 2)doesn't want to go.

I get blind spots, covered sidewalks, neighbors views out of windows and especially broken down and rusty. I moved to this acre for two reasons one of which was changed last summer with new ordinances. If this comes fruition my reasons for buying this house and land will be mute. I will have lost money in this money pit of a town and be forced to move. I am tired of being held to the same standards of normal sized lot neighborhoods and worse those with HOAs.

I hope they put 'with the exception of Scout' in the ordinance.  Or something to that effect.  That would be cool.

I understand What some have expressed. Our neighborhood has a little more space than most. But, some of our rules go 5000 feet beyond ETJ!

I'm not a big fan of ETJ in general - what's the point of living "outside" the city if you're subject to the rule of someone you didn't elect?

Hey Drax0r, I also heard a rumor that someone is trying to ban purple capes from Anna neighborhoods.  Dang!  Say it isn't so.   ;)
