Politics vs. Personal Responsibilty
« on: March 20, 2011, 04:11:09 PM »
I was in Wise County this weekend and found that the husband of my ex-girlfriend's daughter was up for Chief of Police a little while back, but that they hired someone from out-of-town instead - that kind of thing happens all the time.  What else happens all the time which shouldn't, is the shirking of personal responsibility which seems to be at odds with politics.  I mean, I understand politics, but the older I get, and the more I experience, the more retarded it seems to get.

Stupidity layered with ignorance, both fighting for first place, wrapped up with self-servitude.

It would appear (though I can find no mention of it online - my folks plan to attend Tuesday's City Council meeting as a show-of-support) that the officer in question attended his birthday party that his folks hosted.  A woman who attended the party and left sober, later drank herself into a stupor, and caused a traffic accident  - mentioned being at the party - probably in an attempt to name-drop.

What happened, however, was horrific (and not unlike what those of us who remember Lt. Day saw transpire) - THEY DEMOTE THE OFFICER AND REDUCED HIS PAY.

Why?

Because he "should've known better" than to attend a party on someone's else property where there was a potential for a sober woman to later get drunk and cause an accident.

WTF???

Now I fancy myself a pretty smart guy, but for the life of me, I can't figure this one out.  Since when did pretending to be dumb as a box of rocks start looking good on a resume?  I WOULD BE FIRED if I started acting as dumb as people we elect to office.  WHO IS ELECTING the people who place dumb people in positions of authority?  Or am I looking about this completely wrong?  PLEASE TELL ME!  Since when is "lowest common denominator" the best leadership we can get?  And why do we, as citizens, continue to allow it?
