school bus won't come down my street
« on: August 12, 2008, 08:50:55 AM »
Does anyone know how I can get a turnaround put on Fern street?  The bus won't come down my street because its a dead end (although I've seen them come down and turn around with no problem before)  My 6 year old has to wait in the dark next to highway 5 to catch the bus.  This is just too dangerous!  There is an empty lot on my street that can easily be graveled or paved to make a turnaround, but who do I contact?

Playing devils advocate here but....   Who owns that lot and who would pay for the turn around?  I haven't ever been down that street but it appears that it's only 13 houses deep.  That may be a battle for you there..  I find it odd that the street just ends, my assumption would be that the City plans on that road going through.

If there is a true issues with the buss not getting close enough to your house or a possible child endangerment issue then I would approach the City on it.  If your just two lazy to walk down 13 houses to get your kids off the buss then good luck.

This is an older established street, so I'm pretty sure if there was a plan to extend this road, it would've happened already.  And no, I'm not too lazy to walk down the street with my child, I run a home childcare and cannot take all the toddlers and infants on a hike everyday to the bus stop and leaving them in the house is not an option.

Yeah, that is a pain, I feel ya there.  We are fortunate in the fact the buss stop is right in front of our house but others that live on side streets have to do the exact same as you in our neighborhood.  The fact of the matter is your not any worse off than people living on the center block of the falls.  The buses here only go around the outer loop so parrents that live in the center of the neighborhood are in the same situation as you.

Seems as if they didn't plan for that to go through at some point they would have put in a cul-de-sac.  I would bet that the city does plan on that road to go through at some point as they build out but that could be 20 years out.

Just fishing for the validity of the thread, cause we all know some people are just ranting on items that don't matter.  Now we know that isn't the case here..  You know me, rude, but it got the job done :P

You know, there are a lot of people who have to send their children this far in the subdivisions, The Falls being one of them.  I agree that your child is not safe out there by himself so you are going to have to figure something out, just like the rest of them do.  Find a friend who's child also goes to the stop, drive him to the stop with everyone in the car and wait with him, or drive him to school.

One thing that isn't acceptable that I see every morning here in The Falls are children that come to the bus stop by themselves who have NO TRAINING in safety and about get their stupid butts ran over.  Niagara Falls Dr is about the same as Hwy 5 in the morning when people are leaving for work.  Parents, you have two weeks to train your kids on bus stop safety, please do it!

You need to contact the Bus company who has the contract.  The City nor the School had anything to do with the route.  Have you seen some of the drivers?  Not sure if I would want them to negotiate a 30' bus in my driveway.

Not sure I would want some of them transporting my kids to school.  My kids were driven to school for a whole year due to a scary bus driver.

Just wanted to know the reasoning for my own benefit, I could respond in many different ways depending on why your questioning the route.  And why not get people stirred up in the interim, easiest way to see if there is a legitimate concern, also makes the thread more fun..

Mission accomplished  :P
