I understand all the talk here, but are you doing more than just complaining here?  If so, what?

Stimulating the democratic process.

Encouraging free thought.

Looking for answers.

Speaking to the citizens of Anna about matters that concern them.

Exercising rights.

Communicating with the city.

It is a fee.

Tax:

1 a: a charge usually of money imposed by authority on persons or property for public purposes b: a sum levied on members of an organization to defray expenses

I'm not saying it's not a fee, but it seems to fit the definition of tax, as well.

It is a fee.

I gotta fever.  And the only prescription...is more cowbell!

I understand all the talk here, but are you doing more than just complaining here?  If so, what?

I'm thinking out loud.  Thank goodness we have a place we can do that, and get some tangible feedback.  Feedback from people like you, for example.  Dissenting views  (thank you, BTW for that).

In thinking aloud, I want to get others to think as well.  See if my question holds water.  Check its validity against their own set of instructions.  I would be aghast if the City were going to double or triple our costs for no reason whatsoever and not a single person stood up and questioned it.

If I have to be that person than so be it!

If I am overruled I will accept the decision of the majority with grace and style - as long at that decision was informed!

Also, it is not much of a topic at the City Council meetings because the fee is understood by the Council and Staff.  If you want more information I am sure that the city manager would be happy to fill you in.

Indeed, I'm sure the city manager would appreciate 9000 phone calls so he could explain how franchise fees work.

Alternately, the city could take a proactive approach to keep the citizens informed about things that effect them.

Perhaps the first would result in moving towards the latter.  I am still shocked at how little communication their is between the city and citizens, even if you are TRYING to find out what is going on.  Not everyone has time to go hang out at the local coffee shop for the low down on all the happenings.   Anna is not a small farming community any longer - they need to step it up.

Ditto for the communication from the school system as well.

heres the deal:

This IS a tax, in a sense. Why do I say that?

Because we have no choice in the matter, and when there is no choice, the word "fee" doesnt fit, by my standards.

I do not like the fact that the change is being enacted without my consent, as I will have to pay a different amount for something I may not want.

Thank you,

I don't understand why the service is going to be more expensive either because it sounds like we get 2 trash bins, however we get pickup only once a week and in addition someone is going to make some money off the goods that are recycled.  People dig through trash cans for aluminum cans for a reason and will that money go to Bradshaws or to the City?

Also will there be a stipulation in the contract that the cans will be placed on the curb and not slammed into the street?

Trash Service is again on the City Council Agenda for this Tuesday night.  Come to the meeting, sign up to speak (you must sign in when you get there before the meeting starts).  Speak your piece, be passionate, ask for the council to take action that reflects the wishes of the citizens.  Just an FYI - you can speak, but the council cannot interact with you - it is a bit awkward.

All that being said - I like what has been proposed, I would prefer 2x per week, but I can live with once.  The cost is not out of line.  I think we are just talking about $3-$5 more than we are paying now.

I cannot.

Plus trying to stuff those huge freaking bins in my house.  NO!  That's not worth ANY amount of money!

Last night at the City Council meeting it was decided that our new trash pick up will consist of one pick-up per week of the 96 gallon poly carb trash bin provided by the contractor Bradshaw & Son and one pick-up per week of the 65 gallon poly carb recycling bin also provided by the contractor.  This is at an increase of $3.75 per month to our garbage fee.  We will also have the opportunity to call and have large items picked up the 3rd Friday of any month.  You can also set general larger items that won't fit in the bin next to it for pick-up.  Our regular service that allowed for pick-up of Trees in December/January is also allowed.  I believe that the change will not go into effect until later this summer.  We will receive by mail from the City of Anna a list of instructions and such.

If you have questions regarding this, you can call City Hall 972-924-3325 or contact one of our City Council Members or the Mayor.  Their information is on the City Web site.

I get on my knees every day and thank God that the City Council has the best interests of their constituents in mind.

*sniff sniff*

Smell that?  Its the wind of change.
