I doubt I fully understand the 'apolitical' nature of the military since I am not a member. So does it really mean you give up your citizenship when you join the military? I know orders are orders and you are not to insert reason, logic, emotion, etc into the equation. But outside of direct orders, I expect every member of the military has their own set of positions, values, and idealogical beliefs they are interested in pursuing and some would like to make a difference in their community. Sometimes that may mean they have to address issues contrary to the official position of the military. It almost sounds like a "don't ask don't tell" policy. You can have political opinions and beliefs as long as you don't actually let anybody know and by all means don't try to act on them.
