Driving around tonight we have been stopped and asked questions about the burglary this morning. I can not divulge any info about the case since it is still being investigated, but, I will say that we need to get proactive.
First thing that needs to be done is LOCKING ALL YOUR DOORS INCULDING THE GARAGE DOORS, especially during the day time. Most burglaries happen during the day and not at night. Next thing that needs to happen is being nosey neighbors!!! What I mean by this is any time of the day or night, if you see something or someone acting suspicious, call the police. We depend on you to help be our eyes and ears!
Don't be embarrassed to call. If the officer arrives and finds out that nothing is wrong, it's not a big deal. Then again you might be calling in on a wanted person or a subject casing a house to burglarize or many number of things. At least when we contact people off of these calls we can identify who they are. Also know that when we are dispatched to a suspicious person call from a resident, that gives us what is called reasonable suspicion to legally make contact with the subject and identify them. When you do see a suspicious person or activity, do not approach them, that is our job. Get a physical description of the person, their clothing and the last direction they were going. If they get into a vehicle get a good description and if possible a tag number, even a partial number will help.
At night, leave your porch lights, front and back, on. Burglars need to have dark to hide in and they avoid well lit areas
.
The biggest thing is, common sense, you know if something is not right in your neighborhoods!!
