"tonight on First News and KXII.com hear from both sides on this issue"

Just curious how it went.

Thanks.  There was a place to post comments on the story, so..... I did.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the news story.

I was pleased with Channel 8's coverage.  ;D

"City leaders say tax revenue from liquor sales pumps about $15,000 a month into the tax base to pay for services as Anna tries to keep up with its booming population."

It appears my calculations were about right.

"We were averaging about $30-35k before alcohol ... so the alcohol loss will be more like $15-20k."

Now, I'm not sure where Mr Green gets his 5-8% number.

$15k/month * 12 = $180,000

5% of $4.8m = $240,000
8% of $4.8m = $384,000

It seems there's still some exagerating going on to push an agenda...

I would say that both sides are exaggerating several things. For example: The Anti-Alcohol claim the quality of life and property values are going to go down hill.  The Pro-Alcohol claim is the town will be in ruins if it goes away.

Everyone exaggerates to get their point across.   ;D

I agree.  I've been fighting both sides for a while.  And if you notice, I'll try to give the benefit of the doubt to the other side when necessary to keep from losing support.  (I posted the high side #'s: $15-20k)

Based on my recent tax statement, I can't possibly say my property values have gone down as a result of alcohol.  But a 2.2% increase isn't significant either.  So from my viewpoint, neither argument is accurate.

Wow, so I just watched the video.  The article attributed the 5-8% number to Keith Green, but the words came out of Chief Jenks' mouth.  So I wonder who really gave the $15k/mo number to the news.

Nothing against the C.O.P.  He's done a great job in the interim, but maybe it's a good thing someone is taking over the city manager job so he can focus on the P.D.

So, somebody (Kevin J) explained the disparity in the numbers.  It seems the General Budget is $2.7m which makes the numbers work out.

I guess if they really wanted to make a point, they could compare the $15k to the Police Department budget and then it would look like an even larger percentage.

Fred,

Since you seem to be so good at digging up numbers, do you have data on the property value of, say, Fossil Creek, and how much they pay in property tax?

$11,505.86

Based on their liquor license, Fossil is owned by GTF Investments...

That's all?  Man, that's barely enough to cover a prohibition election every year.
