Sorry about multiple posts, but I am trying to avoid one really long tirade! :-\

Have any of you seen the proposition that is floating around about bailing out by giving the billions to citizens?  It goes something like split the funds up between all the citizens over 18.  Take 30% back in income tax.  That would leave roughly $250,000 for each citizen over 18.  That would bail out our economy and it would be better than the HUGE payouts going to the execs.

Thoughts?

BTW,  you in case you all were mildly concern, I don't have an illness, that was just an example ;)

You and your illness have to take a backseat to gas and groceries.  Sorry!!!!!!!!!

j/k  giving an example of how concerned we would all be :)

I had seen that too. There are approximately 200 million citizens over the age of 18 in the US (according to US Census figures). It only comes out to 3500 per citizen. Not 250k.

Well damn!  Not as good as I heard quoted.  But still I would take that over giving it to the idiots who bankrupted their companies to begin with.

No monsters was an option that came to mind.  Also, I'm sure the following wouldn't be bad for anyone here ... eat more veggies, eat some lean wild game and fish...

Yes!  And while we're on the subject of what we think others ought to do, I think you people ought to:

  • Only mate once every seven years.
  • Drink your own urine.
  • Cover the heads of women when in public.
  • Create camps to send people to who don't agree with me.

Excellent!  Anyone else?

Thanks Fred!

 >:(  You were looking for a rise out of me weren't you?

So obviously, commenting that eating healthier 'wouldn't be bad for anyone' is not the same as spelling out what 'others ought to do'.  But since you opened the door...  :D

I think you people ought to:
love deeper,
and speak sweeter,
and give forgiveness you've been denyin'
and someday I hope you get the chance
to live like you were dying

In all seriousness, what would happen if the government did nothing and let the nature of business take it's course? I work for a bank. I really do have a vested interest in how this all turns out, but I'm serious. What would happen? I've heard talk of another Great Depression. I've heard that this is the worst drop in the Wall Street history. But I did a bit of research and found the stock market dropped by almost a quarter of it's value in 1987. And we are still here. And then there was the Dot Com bubble in the 90s. We are still here.

Is it not feasible then to think the economy would also recover from this fall, without a bailout? I'm sure it would be very very painful for awhile, but would the world end?

I am genuinely curious. Any thoughts?

I lived through the market crash in 87.  I was a working Joe, me and all the other working joes felt little to no affect.  There were some layoffs in the financial industry, but it didn't carry over to many other industries.  I was 21 so there might have been more that I was not aware of.

Wow.... I wasn't paying much attention at the time...then again I wasn't even driving then.

Not at all.  I was just shocked that your opinions were directed and chose to turn the tables.

Thanks to my lovely mother, I am now freaking out about the economy.  She is pleasantly reminded me of the great depression and talked about how stores, hotels, places of work could be shutting down in the next week leaving thousands unemployed.  She also brought up that this might not be the time people will want to have maintance done on their Lexus's (which is where my hubby works) leaving my husband w/o a job.  >:(

Thanks mom for the warming, loving, encouraging talk right before I try to go to bed :-\

I don't believe that we will feel it tomorrow or next week or next month.  But if things don't get better I think we will start feeling it.  A large part of our economy functions on credit and the credit industry.  I think it will take a big toll, but will take while to get here.

I am glad to know that my company is cash operation.  I am thankful that I know the CFO well and we have had these strange conversations over the years.  It definitely makes it easier to sleep at night.

I feel for anyone who does not have that security today.  I think the Lexus drivers are ok.  Now if things start getting worse and you start seeing layoffs in the Financial industry it will be different.  There are several Lexus drivers at my office.  Perhaps I can send them your way ?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Gee. Thanks. I was feeling better until you mentioned the whole Financial industry thing.

Anyone need a technical writer?

Just joking with you. Sort of.

Seriously. If there is a tech writer job nearby, let me know? :)

My dad was laid off from Shell in the crash of 1987. We felt it. He had been mowing yards on weekends to make extra cash, so he put all of his severance package & retirement into starting his own landscaping company. He to this day just makes ends meet, but he is not worried about "the man" laying him off again. Unfortunately, he is feeling this crunch very badly. Gas prices, cost of supplies and folks doing their own yardwork to save cash --- yeah - it hurts already.
Ask me how I can help you feel your best.
