FTFA:

Quote
Deragon, the former Anna City Council member, said he felt so strongly about the problems liquor stores pose for Anna that he led a petition drive in 2007 to overturn the 2005 election.

But the subsequent election revealed a far different mood among voters.

With almost twice the turnout, more than 77 percent voted to keep the sale of beer, wine and liquor. Deragon said he has given up on efforts to rid Anna of alcohol.

"The citizens spoke," he said.

Boom.  You're welcome, Anna.

"He worries about the effect on Anna's image of having Collin County's only liquor stores. Three of the four – Anna Liquor, Fossil Creek Liquor and Goody Goody – sit visibly on U.S. Highway 75 at the town's only exit.

"I still feel it's a negative that the first thing people see when they come into Anna is liquor stores," Deragon said."

Sure killed The Colony...  well, maybe not.

I FIND IT NEGATIVE THAT FORMER CITYCOUNCILMEMBERS BRING UP THEIR FAILED INSURGENCIES IN THE NEWSPAPER AS A PLATFORM FOR THEIR FEELINGS ON THE MATTER.

Only because I'm worried about the  effect on Anna's image, you understand.

Ass.

  • Okay, so I entered the Matrix. Now what?
I see the presence of Anna's liquor stores as a green initiative...a bonafied environmental conservation measure. Reduced automobile traffic and driving distance to a liquor store in some distant town improves air quality by reducing carbon monoxide emissions, while reducing the consumption of fossil fuels.

So let's save the environment...buy Anna liquor!

(just this one treehugger's opinion)

If Deragon is so worried about Ann's liquored-up image going to hell in a handbasket, why doesn't he pack his lost-cause, minority-vote ass outta town and go find himself a dry city to live in? You know, one with lots of Baptist churches and bored housewives forming dimwitted activist groups!

The liquor stores were one of the positives in my decision to buy a house in Anna.  Too bad they are closed on Sunday's though :(

Many things can be said about Mr. Deragon.  The one thing that cannot be said is that he went with the flow, was a follower and not a leader.  Sure, he let his personal views over shadow what may have been in the better interest of the City but I would rather have a leader with conviction than a leader who waits to follow someone else.

Which is why he got my vote for the School Board.  I think he'll do GREAT THINGS there.

What is the point in being steadfast and positive in your beliefs if you are positively wrong. LOL

My grandpa used to say "conviction is just what a Republican calls stubbornness."

...and yes, he was a Democrat. Me? Well, I don't walk party lines. I just vote for the lesser of two stupids.

Would you rather have someone vote wrong because some others are voting wrong?

I believe having liquor stores away from neighbors helps diffuse the crime problem.  Look what happened in Dallas?  Robberies, vandalism and drunks.. we dont need them in town.
