I believe having liquor stores away from neighbors helps diffuse the crime problem.  Look what happened in Dallas?  Robberies, vandalism and drunks.. we dont need them in town.

Interesting.  All of the evidence we turned up during our investigation to battle these same ideals during the "Great Liquor Election of 2007" disagreed with that statement.  It was actually kinda funny, someone on the other side would make a statement like that, and we'd show them studies and reports which proved otherwise.  They'd say "you can get a study to say anything" but never *actually* provided a study to show their point of view, instead just repeated their false mantra.  It was mostly just a bunch of strong opinions - which is fine, please don't get me wrong - but don't ever make the presumption to state your opinion as fact.  Anyway, I agree with Mr. Deragon insofar as "the public spoke."

Damn right.

Well, and someone is not knowing that this forum was founded on this issue.  8) So, at least in the beginning, we were polarized on this issue.  ;)

Except for Fred -- who apparently just tolerates the rest of us drunkards. LOL

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

There's no evidence suggesting a causal relationship between the liquor stores and neighborhood degradation.

There are certain types of businesses that tend to do well in economically depressed neighborhoods, but these are a symptom, not a cause.

  • Okay, so I entered the Matrix. Now what?
In order to get away from the crusty ol' package store stigma, we need a Spec's Liquor! Haven't been to one in Big D. But the stores in Houston, in addition to liquor, carry impressive selections of cheeses, meats, deli/party trays, fine cigars, and other party/celebratory foods and favors. They are the "World Market" of liquor stores.

Precisely.

Remember that Blue Lady with the Bonnet pointing to the five pointed star.  Un huh.  It could be a warning sign.

Would Deragon have paid everyone's individual water bill and property tax increases if liquor had been voted out of Anna?

Why is Deragon the voice of Anna when it comes to Liqour?  Or, any other issue for that fact.

How strongly does this former City Council member feel about infidelity?
Has anyone told his wife yet?

I hope the school board enforces ethics; the city council sure didn't!

That's why it's called "Go Get 'Em Juice" in certain circles.  And by the way, 100% agave tequila margaritas provide the same result around my house.
