I was in the garage smoking a cigar and drinking Scotch with the garage door open when my daughter came out to spend time with me in front of the heater. We're watching the drizzle when it quite unexpectedly turned to snow.

My daughter rushes out in her coat and flip-flops, twirling around and around as if on the beach.

Then bolts into the house.

A few minutes pass and she comes out in boots and a hat, and holds up her gloved hands like a surgeon.

"Upgrades." she says.

And rushed back out.

Good news:  My wife is a full-time student at a technical college getting her dental assistant certification and we're paying for the entire thing out-of-pocket.

Bad news:  My lifelong empirical test of perfect price point liquors has had to be applied to blended Scotch for the short-term.  Results: Cutty Sark.

The cigars were a gift - ones I've never had before - "Nick's Sticks."  Not bad at all!
