CHICKENS
« on: September 01, 2010, 10:30:02 PM »
Who thinks it's bad to have chickens in there back yard, just as a family pet for the kids, and get some eggs for breakfast, I understand that the roosters can get quite noisy at times, but is it really that big of a problem when you're in your house watching tv, you can't even hear them, and it's not like they are getting out or anything, they are in the backyard, in a pen, and a little roost that I spent 2 weeks to make, and I just got a letter in the mail saying I have ten days to get rid of them, or pay fines, so all the work I did, and money I put into them is wasted, and I've seen other people with chickens in there yard so why is it such a big deal?

If you have an HOA, then it most likely states that you can't have the chickens. Ours says we aren't allowed to have them. They also smell and the smell tends to wander. If I had acreage and lived in the "country" then I would love to have chickens and a cow.

No we don't have an HOA here, I am in Tara Farms, I know my neighbors are the ones who called the city hall and complained about it, just because they don't like my little brother, and the chickens don't stink, I keep them very well maintained, and clean.

they don't like your brother?  someone probably smells a trap here.

and by the way - chickens in a neighborhood with houses 3 feet apart... NOT a friendly thing.  Barking dogs, clucking chickens, crowing roosters, fapping midgets, it's all just unnecessary and annoying.

sure, maybe you have your tv turned up to 100% and can't hear the chickens in pain as they birth your fresh breakfast every day, but your neighbors that don't like your gimp brother, they can hear it.  just kill the chickens and eat them, burn the wood from the chicken coop, and give your brother his meds.  problems solved!

I don't know his brother, but I live nearby, and I'm not a big fan of his chickens.

But I bet they'd taste good.

Chickens are really stinky.  Having them is a great way to alienate your neighbors.

To the people that say they would taste good, feel free to come get them... I have to get rid of them somehow.

It is what it is, we cant have them on our acre either...as of 6/09. Oh well I wanted to mow all this grass anyway. Plus they bring mice which brings snakes and I don't want those!

I've been looking for an effective means for some time.   This is wonderful advice - THANK YOU!

Get some pigs and hogs too.  They work great.  :)

Seriously, though, the couple 3 doors down from me had a bunch of chickens.  His neighbor got so sick of the smell and the clucking that he made some calls to force them to remove the chickens.  I thought this normally mild mannered man was going to go over there and take out the chickens with a shotgun.  He really lost it.  I guess it was a bunch of chickens, not just 2 or 3.  That was an entertaining week in our neighborhood.

like... who SERIOUSLY thinks they can put chickens to roost in their backyard in a regular neighborhood?  like, do they come up with that right after hitting the crack pipe?
