No warranty on private sale unless you told them otherwise.  That would be my policy.

Ugh, that sucks.  This is specifically why I NEVER want someone from Craigslist to know where I live.  Sounds like you handled the situation the best you could, and I wouldn't think you owe them anything further.  Isn't it common knowledge that Craigslist is basically a garage sale and "ALL SALES FINAL"???  If it was in such bad shape, their inspection should have been enough.  It passed their inspection, money exchanged hands, done deal.

Good luck!

I say, they bot it, it's theirs.. they bot it as is.  If it was warped that bad, they would have seen it.

I've sold a few things on CL & haven't had the issues you have.  I wouldn't have had the patience you did for sure.

My wife bot a baby swing from CL once that when we got it home it wouldn't work once the baby got in it.. she called the seller back & they said they were sorry & gave us the $ back.  I thought it was nice they did it but I didn't feel they had to.  Also, that is something that does something (moving parts).  A table does not...

You should have just assured her that you would hold it until later that night or the next day.  Especially if you didn't have anyone else coming to look.

Those people sound nuts.  Definitely don't take the table back.  They probably ruined it themselves and now want a refund.
If it oinks or moos, it bar-b-ques.

I use craigslist to move stuff all the time. I tell the few who want refunds. NO REFUNDS if you have a problem with it then sell it on craigslist. I have only had one person come to my house for a craigslist deal and that was for a car I sold. You DO NOT have to offer a refund on craigslist.

amatuers! first rule of thumb.... NEVER, I MEAN NEVER, HAVE SOME STRANGER KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE, WHAT YOUR DRIVE, WHAT STREET, ETC.

Secondly, when its a "cash" transaction all sales are final - however, there are exceptions. depending on what the product is. electronics, appliances, etc, yes. if they bring it back and it wont turn on or whatever... then ok. however, not all the $$$ will be refunded. lets say you buy a TV for example for $100. doesn't work. or doesn't fit or whatever... if they want to "return" it... guess what - i can only give you $80 back.

thirdly, when its a small item, like a "tea cart" (who the hell has a tea cart anyways? ), throw that shit in the back of your van, or truck, or trunk... or BORROW a truck for like an hour.

drive your lazy ass to a PUBLIC area (preferably with cameras) and do the transaction there.

example:

i'm selling a Home Theater system (not really). i get a call or email with the buyer. offer is made OR "take a look at it first and make an offer"

they say Yes, ok.... "SOLD"

I then ask where they live. they say mckinney. cool. Ok, well "I" will be in mckinney on saturday at 2:00pm. please meet me at the parking lot of the starbucks on the corner of the 380 and 75, near the hooters. I will be in a Purple truck (example)

seller says ok, he's in a green car.... Done deal

Saturday: we both get there, they take a look at it... decide to offer X amount.... i say ok, but no warranty/refunds, all cables, etc, are there.... done deal.

You then WAIT until they leave FIRST! (if its a "high dollar" item... get their license plate and make/model - its not rocket science).

Summary: they dont know where you live, the city maybe.... but not what house, in what subdivision, etc. if police need to get involved they can contact the business and request videotape (if applicable) footage.

CASH only (of course) is exchanged and the IRS never finds out.

MODERATOR(S): make this into a sticky. profanity and all

PEACE!  8)

Whatever, you don't owe theM anything!  The cops will tell them the same thing, and you were smart to also state "no refunds".

Tell me more about this recliner, you may be able to sell it twice!  We just sold a Bowflex on Craigslist (wonder where that came from?) and now have the space for different furniture...

Red i was giving them the recliner FREE, its a wing back recliner,i paid 25.00 for it and was giving it away, i had intended on getting rid of it anyways and she asked about it, so i told her... i got it off craigslist as a project has cat scratches in the leather, leather store has a kit that covers those type scratches i had been told, i never got around to doing it, as far as the tea cart i was asking just 10.oo its an antique i just wanted it gone outta the garage....they have the glass top to it, and never gave me the 10.00 for it, at this point i dont know what to do, he texted me, i tried calling him, no answer so i texted him and said sorry i can not take the table and chair set back.

People look normal.  Well, except for the ones with the crazy eyes.  But they're not.  People are WEIRD!  I'd like to forget this occasionally, but every time I step outside, I'm reminded of this fact.
