Disc golf course?
« on: January 19, 2012, 01:15:19 AM »
Does anybody know where the disc golf course is supposed to be built? Any info on how many holes or if it's even been designed yet?

Is anyone able to confirm this rumor?  Will there be a disc golf park in Anna??

Slater Creek Park is supposed to be the home of said course. I would imagine they would want to put it south of 455 as there is ample room and more interesting hole selections. But then I have never walked the paths around the Softball fields up at Rosamond. Whether it will be 9 or 18 is yet to be announced (as far as I know anyway).

It's a fad. Instead of hitting a golf ball you throw a Frisbee toward the target or "hole". Keep score on the number of throws you take to get it to the hole. I wouldn't do it but whatever floats your boat. On the other hand many folks would look at me trying to play golf and go "why don't you take up something else that you might actually be able to do"?

Lately the only thing I've been able to do successfully is nap. Damn I'm good at that.

If you throw one out of bounds, you get to use the pun "Oh man, I threw a disc out!"

What if you throw a disc out while you throw the disc out? This could get all existential on us, Chili.

Thanks for the answers guys!
Gotta stick up for my hobby though and say that it's more than just a fad. It's not a new thing - it's actually been around over 30 years...even has it's own professional league (PDGA - founded in 1976) and actually some pretty serious players and tournaments come through McKinney. The women's world champion - Paige Peirce considers the Town Lake course in McKinney to be her home course :)

Just to clarify for anyone that's never played - the discs you use are not your classic frisbee discs. They're specifically designed for disc golf and are usually very flat, made from a hard plastic and typically have sharp edges (to cut through the wind). Many many variations of disc though - the shape and style of the disc all depends on what the disc's purpose is - long range driver, mid-range or putter and the desired dynamic of the disc - heavy flat flight pattern, right pull, left pull, flick, etc.

A lot of newbies give it a go and stop there but there's a few out there that actually take it seriously and a good player can easily drive the disc over 300 feet

I'm actually pretty excited that we're getting a course up here - it's fun...good exercise...and best of all - IT'S FREE!!!

I cannot imagine heaving a golf disc that far but give me the 175g Discraft and I can fling that all day. I certainly plan on getting out with a couple basic golf discs (Acadamy's available driver and putter) and checking it out. Sure wish they would hurry up and start building.

I've played that before and it is fun. The more beer you drink the better you get at it. It's always better if there is a creek next to the course for your disc to land in. Those disc are expensive and it's fun watching a bunch of drunk guys argue about who is going to jump in the creek to get them out!  :P

Haha! Yeah - good times! I recommend anybody who's going to play more than a few games should spend $20 to get a retriever - it's basically a metal catch on the end of a long string...works like a charm
If you don't have one of those my vote is that the guy who's wearing the clothes that will dry out the fastest should get it :)

I haven't played in years, used to when I was in high school in Carrollton.  Is McKinney the only course in the area?
