got a new gig
« on: December 02, 2011, 04:40:48 PM »
After being out of work almost 6 years and not taking a dime from anyone, just living off my savings accumulated in the 40 years I did work, I finally got a gig. Not a glamorous one but a gig. I'm in training with 20 somethings on their first or second job. They're a joke. The instructor has repeatedly said "turn off your cell phones" and in every class one goes off. WTF is it with them getting cheap tats, especially the girls? Does everyone talk like they're from Southern California? Did they ever teach grammar in school? Parents: common courtesy? Manners?

They show up for training, having to borrow paper and a pen because they didn't think they had to take notes. Repeat for the next day. And next. They're always a few minutes late.

Sure I'm an old fart but come on. This is who will lead our country and industry in a generation? Thank God I'll be pushing up daisies.

Like I told my nephew 2 years ago when he entered the workforce: "show up, on time and don't be an idiot.  that's all you have to do.  let the others that can simply do that weed themselves out."  He will be entering the management program at his company shortly and he is just 17.

And golf, that stuff doesn't just bother you.  It bothers everyone that isn't living inside that bubble they float around in.
