RANT--Incompetent Co-Workers
« on: September 20, 2007, 10:31:34 PM »
Okay...so the team leader is out on maternity leave which means I am carrying the whole ELA team by myself.  (sigh)  One sub, one brand new teacher.  (sigh)  The first week of school (August 27th), a kids' dad comes in and tells my partner teacher (the brand new one) that he plans to take dd out of school for THREE WEKS for a religious pilgrimmage to Alaska (trying not to laugh, snort...snort).  I mean Holy Penguins!  Three weeks???

So anyway...he sees me this morning in the hallway and says to me, "So, I just wanted to remind me that dd will be out starting on Monday for three weeks.  I hadn't heard anything back from you about her work."  Me:  HUH????

Turns out, incompetent co-worker has forgotten to tell me about this nice little fact.  So, I was up at school until 9:00 (Yes, you read that right...6 1/2 extra hours) getting copies made and lessons that I would normally do with the kids on the whiteboard/overhead written out on paper for her to take with.

Incompetent co-workers suck.

I am just curious as to why the new teacher, the one that knew and forgot about the child being out, was not the one to stay late and get the work done.

You need to teach the new person to say "could you email that to me please, the reminder would be very helpful so I can get everything ready for her absence."

I am the oldest and always help Melvin with thangs. If not he screws stuff up.  He drank a whole bottle of STP once cause we left him alone.    Momma says there is no excuse for stupid.

Oh, believe you me, I DID tell her.  I had to stay because we team teach.  She does math/science and I do reading/writing.  She has no clue about what I do.. Hell, she spells table "tabel".  (sigh).  And that after 4 years of college.  Sad.

Umm...I think you should check into the state laws regarding this lenght of absent.  Most schools unenroll their students and make them re-enroll for an AB of that length because they lose funding for all those days the child isn't there.

I would like to know where this person teaches. I want to make sure none of my kids have her!

That is really sad.  I worked for GISD for 4 years.  There were many wonderful, dedicated teachers.  There were several that gave the whole profession a bad name.   It should be easier to get rid of bad teachers AND there should be more out there to lure good people into the profession.

I hate incompetent people.

I am pretty sure that the parent claiming it is a "religious pilgrimmage" protects the child from any repercussions for the absence.

Yes--that's excatly what the claim does.  I think the parents will make sure she keeps up with the work I sent hom--three large folders worth.  They are wierd, but definately expect their children to perform well.

I won't mention where I work specifically as it would be unprofessional, but rest assured that the new teacher will eventually get her "come-uppins" as my grandmother would say.  Cocky and incompetent.  Karma, baby...

If her performance doesn't improve pretty quickly, my principal will find a way to get rid of her.  She has no tolerance for poor teaching practices and unprofessional behavior.

The district I work for is great about keeping teachers, too--mentoring programs, Christmas bonuses, etc.  I'm very happy there.

I know what you mean.  The people that work for me act like children.  Oh wait.....  they are.  No wonder they never listen.  :D
