In general read some stuff on it and it says some ports need to be open on the modem but Suddenlink won't do it ?

NAT is housed via your Gateway Router.  Your Suddenlink modem should be connected to another device, such as a CISCO router.  That is the device that needs the ports forwarded for Xbox Live in order to have an Open NAT.  This site gives excellent step-by-step instructions on how to do this task.  If, for some reason, you have your Xbox directly connected to your Suddenlink router, you need to change that anyways, I recommend the CISCO E3000 wireless router if you don't already have one.

No problem - I have to do those port forwarding steps every time I change routers.  Once it's done, matchmaking, voice chat, everything works flawlessly.

Nope -

You can do it yourself for free using their guides.  Don't mess with that previous link.  Start here:

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

Find your router model number, and click the link for it on that page.

The next step is IMPORTANT.  In the top right of the page that opens up, click on "click here to skip this advertisement" - unless of course ,you want to pay to have it done.  Then by all means sign up and pay.  But.. I wouldn't, it's way too easy.

After you click to skip the advertisement, it opens up the page that lists all the services for which you can forward ports on your router model.  Choose "Xbox Live 360" from the list by clicking on it.

It will then begin a very short and precise guide on exactly how to forward your ports.  It's tailored exactly for your router model number.

Hey, not all gamers on Xbox Live are 10 year old punks cursing worse than a sailor.  Some are helpful!
