Denver to Anna?
« on: March 11, 2011, 09:25:10 AM »
Hey everyone! I'm being relocated From Denver, CO to Sherman, TX for work in the next few weeks and I've been thinking about living in the McKinney, Anna, or Melissa area.

Is Anna a good town for a young professional? I’m 25 and would like to meet people around my age to hang out with when I’m not at work.

If you're not into the whole "nightclub" scene its fantastic!

If I were a 25 yr old young professional and wanting to meet people and hang out.. I don't know Anna would be the place.  Of the 3 you mentioned, McKinney would fit the bill best.  Nothing against Anna, but if meeting people and hanging out is what you're looking for, you'd likely be disappointed that most of the 'haning out' that happens in Anna is in a driveway or garage.  For me, a married man with kids, Anna is great.

I like the "nighclub" scene about as much as I like getting a root canal. I prefer a good cookout with a few cold ones after a long work week.

Sounds like Anna may be the place for you then b/c that happens often!  And we have a dentist, too, so you can go get that root canal instead of going out..

As great as that dentist might be... I think I'll stick with grilling a few burgers and maybe I can convince the people of Anna that hanging out in the backyard is fun, too. Ya know.. it's closer to the grill and all that jazz.

Thanks for the quick feedback! I'm excited to head back to a smaller town (whether it's Anna, McKinney, or Melissa) where I won't get a wierd look if I smile and wave at a neighbor while mowing the lawn.

If I were a single 25 year old woman, Anna would not be the place for me. McKinney is only about 7 minutes south of here and has a large, growing, diverse population, lots of different housing choices, tons of restaurants, shopping up the wazoo, and it's easy to get anywhere because of its location. E is right, Anna is a good town for families. Melissa is also a good family town, but it stinks, literally. Too close to the county landfill.
It depends if you are planning to buy or rent. Not a lot of rentals up here but McKinney has tons.

Usually we move the grill out front - hanging out in the front encourages neighborhood participation in the festivities. :)

Cola Gal, my hubby works in Sherman, and we love it here in Anna - because from Pecan Grove, you can jump on and off of the highway easily and go against traffic getting to Sherman in under 25 minutes. If you head to McKinney, yes there will be many more shops and restaurants --- but the traffic and construction is not pretty. If you are looking to buy or rent a house, you'll get a great deal in Anna. Then during non-rush hour times, you are 10 minutes from the shopping and restaurants. Anna has a decent grocery store, so you don't HAVE to go down to McKinney to shop (like if you lived in Melissa).

I live next door to the man in the hat pictured above. He got me on this forum 3 & 1/2 years ago when we first moved in. I've made friends that I'll have for a lifetime. (probably some enemies, too, LOL)
