Help for new resident
« on: July 14, 2010, 10:07:36 AM »
Hello, Anna. We're moving at the end of the month from Allen to Oak Hollow. Any advice anyone can give us about our new city/area would be appreciated, like, groceries, pharmacy, pub, cafe, hardware store, Walmart, newspapers (can we get the Dallas Morning News delivered here?), and anything else the natives could help us with. So far, we've experienced nothing but really friendly people in Anna. I've wanted to "get outta Dodge" meaning the DFW area, but not be so far that we couldn't get back for shopping or dining. But I'd rather patronize Anna businesses if I could. Thanks, all!

Brookshires has groceries & a pharmacy (though there is also a good one in Van Alstyne if you change your doctor and want drugs fourteen seconds after you've left his office).  Many places sell beer & wine but they usually have a television on (even during meals) or some loud obnoxiatron screaming into one of them there karaoke machines, so we don't have what you'd call a "pub" quite yet, but Swagger comes close.

For those of us further South (and to a lesser degree, the Southern part of Oak Hollow) the trashy green Wal-Mart is but a mere fifteen-minute drive.

Welcome!

Welcome to our city! Brookshires is a great grocery store with a nice little coffee shop inside, but like E said above -- you are not but 12-15 minutes from a Super Target and Walmart in McKinney at 75 & 380. We have plenty of good dining options here in Anna. Check out the Area Businesses board to find more info on the subject. I'm not sure about the Dallas Morning News, as we don't subscribe. Sorry.
Ask me how I can help you feel your best.

We receive the Dallas Morning News every morning in The Falls. Also, the Anna-Melissa Tribune once a week has been helpful for local news/events. Welcome!

The best Wal-Mart in the area we have found is on Lake Forest just north of 121.  Very clean, never crowded, and fast checkout.  The McKinney Wal-Mart is pure ghetto these days, and the Custer/121 location takes a while to get to.  Brookshire's here in town is good for general needs and emergency food units.

Swagger and Crow's both have actual bars to sit at, and they each run a decent Happy Hour special.

BTW - Italian Villa, Swagger and the coffee shop at Brookshire's all have free Wi-fi if you need it during the moving process.

thanks all!

BTW we have Italian Villa here in Allen, and Allen Cafe is owned by the same people. Really good food. Hope Italian Villa makes it in Anna. We'll be supporting it.

Speaking of Brookshire's, there is an excellent trail in the back of it if you want to go on a nice walk near a stream, pond, and nature.  I sometimes grab a sandwich for lunch or light dinner at the Brookshires deli area and go on a mini hike.

We're here! Move was nerve racking (aren't they all). Just came back from the Brookshires for a Saturday night feast here (we love Sonic but it can get old). Prices are higher than we're used to at the Allen Neighborhood Walmart but we expected that. What a big gonzo place though, for Anna. Some of the friendliest folks I've ever encountered. I think we'll like Anna. Just not the fact that in  our neighborhood just about everyone has two 80lb dogs that would eat our two 5lb toy poodles as appetizers. Thanks to everyone for helping us.

Glad to hear!  Here's your "official" welcome!  (Try puttind spike collars on your Poodles, bigger dogs will spit them out due to pain.)
