Certificate of Occupancy Scam
« on: February 13, 2010, 02:31:39 PM »
There will be fireworks in future city council meetings until the end of time regarding this Certificate of Occupancy fee.  This is basically a tax that we are being charged that the City of Anna has adopted.  Could it be a penalty for moving to Anna?  Is Anna trying to slow growth?  This is not the proper and ethical way to do this.  I believe the City Manager  (if he lasts after all this) should re-think this and reverse.  I believe the City of Anna has made a bold decision that will bite them in the butt.. its just a matter of time.   I, myself will continue to press this idiotic rule until the end of time as a resident of Anna.  I do believe that each person who is against this fee should collaborate a night to show up for a city council meeting.  If a date is set, I myself can plan on high profile visitors to attend as well.  Let me know your thoughts.  Please send your input by end of February so something can be organized in March.  Thanks

Welcome back Glen.  It has been a while since we've seen you.   I think the last time I saw you was at the mud raslin match.

If this certificate keeps me safe as a renter by tightening down on Slumlords...making them bring their Ratholes up to code.....I think that I am impressed that someone cares about my safety.  I want my rental to be safe.  I am afraid Mr. Feed the Farm that you are a Slumlord and you have a lot to lose here.  You do not care about the safety of people..you are just angry that you have to dump money into unliveable stuff.

For several years, I installed computers into new builds for a hospitality chain. The Certificate of Occupancy was essential. It said that the inspectors have passed your building as being habitable and safe for people.

If you are building something that requires a Certificate of Occupancy, then you need to make sure that building is safe. That means all the electrical was installed correctly and will not start a fire; plumbing will not leak and cause rotting and mold to develop; floors are solid and will not give way; the roof is solid and will not fall in on people.

If you think this is draconian, or is not necessary, you probably need meds worse then I do.

Mr. Glen,

No, I am not a slumlord... With me buying, this is the first of any type of rule I have ever seen.. This is slowing the growth of Anna in many ways..... this, in my opinion, is a hidden tax.. this fee should go to slum lords, similar to Garland, but trust me, this is unethical.  Think about it.. it hurts the realtors, buyers who are buying existing homes, not to mention this is unheard of... think outside the box.

If you read the CO application, it references all the city codes already in place..think about it.. if codes are already in place, then the CO references the codes, sounds like someone is not reading something..

You have HOA rules, You have city ordinances... now pay for a CO?  The definition of a CO relates to New Construction.  Its just another fee that has to be paid, causing problems between the seller and the buyer... Think about it... is someone is ready to close on a home and the house fails, who's responsibility is it... the sellers or the buyers?  Just think if you bought the home, it fails, you cannot back out... you are basically screwed...plus this is hurting realtors.

Good God Feed the Farm!  Is this the only thing in life you have to bitch about?  You need to focus all those negative waves into a hobby.

After all these CO fees and $150 water deposit for new service........don't ever forget to pay your bill or get into a bind because I just found out they charge a $50 fee to turn the water back on and thats during office hours....after hours fee is $100 !   This is getting out of hand!
