The Council voted to deny the proposed ordinances by a vote of 5 to 1.

I was proud to see the city council, as an independent body, vote for freedom.

I'm actually kinda disappointed...I'm against the ban but wanted to have some fun gettin' a petition with the required 400 signatures to get it on the ballot and let the citizens decide it.  Anybody got any laws they want to try to get on the ballot?

I do.  I think 50% of all local tax dollars should be automatically directed to me.  Just because.  ;)

I think the council made a wise decision for the future growth of our city.  Personally, I thought the issue was a bit premature.

Leaving it up to the business owner is ideal IMHO.  Places like Swagger and the restaurant at Driver's Mart will do well to allow smoking to increase their business.  And places like Crow's - that cater to (albeit non-drinking) families can choose to do what they do.

Personally, I am hoping that new Italian place is good and has a bar.  I don't care if they have smoking or not.   ;D

How about removing elected persons?

I've never much liked him.  I don't have much to back that up, but I did sit in on a council meeting once, and he seemed a bit holier-than-thou.  Like I said, not more concrete than that.  Drax's comment just reinforces that.

--Jamie

Perhaps. He is old school, but we could do worse.

My problem with him is that in every vote with actual contention he has a knack for voting exactly the opposite of how I would vote.

That's a talent.

Because, that's what Brian Boitano would do.
