Looking to buy home in Anna - What Stinks?
« on: November 23, 2010, 02:00:35 AM »
Can anyone tell me what the horrible rotten egg smell that permeates the area is coming from?  Is it dangerous?  Please being new to board, no butt jokes.

Haha E.

I live right across Hwy 5 from Northpointe Crossing in Meadow Ridge (just South of Tara Farms).  I can't say that I have ever smelled 'rotten eggs', but when the local fields are fertilized there is a distinct manure smell.  A couple years back, there was a huge gas line break near that area.  So there is a gas line on that side of Hwy 5.  I wonder if that could be the source...

I notice the smell too. I think it depends on the wind. They opened a new landfill off 121 in Melissa a few years ago, I believe. That's probably the smell.

That landfill is plenty far away from the North end of Anna, I doubt it.

Tara Farms was built on an ancient Indian landfill.

Wow, that was the loudest noise I've ever heard.  Sounded like a jet times 10.  I'm surprised you're still alive, family.

All I know is we looked at property in east McKinney about a mile from where they had a landfill, and I play golf at Ridgeview Ranch in Plano where they have a transfer station, and that smell is undeniable. It's landfill.
