AT&T vs GCEC Telephone
« on: February 18, 2010, 03:51:56 PM »
Calling all Oak Hollowins

I am in desperate need of anyone within the OH community to PM me their AT&T home telephone number. We have been trying for years to get AT&T to deliver us from GCEC. Each time we call AT&T they promise to deliver service then cancels the order saying they cannot service our community even though they do. If anyone is in my phase and has it then it is highly beneficial. This info is purely needed for use as a reference for AT&T to be able to pattern our install to theirs.

We know they can, they know they can, their technicians seem to think they can't. Each time we have tried we get it on high authority from within AT&T they will show up and give us service. Yet here we are. Nada. GCEC says there is no restriction to other telecoms coming in yet that has been AT&Ts excuse in the past. This lastest attempt they have no reason, it was merely "canceled" with no explaination from their mgmt.

Thanks for your assistance.

Go with Vonage...MUCH better than GCEC and cheaper that AT&T.  We have had Vonage for a little over 2 years and we love it.

I live in OH and from what I understand, part of the subdivision can get it and parts of the subdivison can't.

Vonage?  Really?  Isn't that VOIP?  <--Yikes!   My buddy has it in Tara Farms.  I know why its cheaper, but his response is always, "But I can hear you just fine!"

"What?  WHAT?"

"I CAN HEAR YOU JUST FINE!"

Nah, as long as the cable modem isn't being difficult the vonage works great.

The land-line is really just an afterthought anyway - who uses home phones anymore?

Yeah, we had to drop Vonage due to the crappy internet speeds we were getting.  Turns out it was all related to the fact that Cebridge didn't actually bury our cables, they just picked up the sod and laid them underneath.  All those little nicks from the weed eater eventually started causing issues, but by the time we got it fixed I had already upped my cell phone plan.

I know someone in McKinney that can't even get it, but the person across the street can.  So it's not just our little town.  Seems someone "creative" designed the layout.  I use the term 'creative' very loosely.

I would rather have Verizon.  This way you can get FIOS, and then link all my services, including my cell phone, on one bill. Plus, I heard that the video is way better than cable or satelite.

We've been waiting for AT&T U-verse.  They were supposed to be finished w/ McKinney at the end of '07, and starting on Melissa right after, and I would assume Anna would be next.  Still waiting.

We were in the test market for FIOS internet, and it was very hard to give up when we moved.
