Constantly barking dog
« on: December 14, 2010, 07:19:17 PM »
Quick question for the masses.

Who do I report a constantly barking dog to?  Any time the owner is at home she puts the dog inside and it is quiet, any time she leaves the dog starts barking as soon as the car leaves the driveway.  It does not stop until the car pulls back up into the driveway.

Last week the dog barked for over 11 hours straight one day, over 6 hours another day and at a minimum of 3 hours two nights.

I am getting frustrated with the constant barking and am not really sure what to do about it.

Thanks for any assistance.
John

The city has a noise complaint form you can fill out.

John, you have to understand the rules here in Anna. You must have a pickup truck, two large dogs that bark constantly, multiple 15 year old cars parked in front of your house, scrap metal in your back yard, a fence that is in bad shape, at least one dead tree on your property, Bermuda grass in your flower beds.

Get with the program or move to McKinney.

Whew!  There for a minute I thought you were talking about me.  Right up until you mentioned the Bermuda grass in the flower beds.  We maintain a healthy balance of johnson grass and sunflowers in ours.

You can talk to the neighbor about it to see if she will do anything.  If you are an onwer you can try the HOA as the CCRs say that this type of annoyance is prohibited, they can, if you can get them to, send a letter to and as a means of compliance fine the owner. Doesn't make for the best neighbors though.  Best to make a recording and send it with the complaint.  You can also levarage the city as others have mentioned.

Is the dog barking in the daytime or at night. After 9 pm is when the ordinance goes into effect. If it is during the day you should probably get out of your house instead of listening to a dog bark for 11 hours straight. :)

You should talk to the neighbor. Maybe have an officer come with you so you do not get shot or into a fight.

That is such crap, you shouldn't have to leave your home because your neighbor and thier dog is an a55h*le.

People need to be responsible for their animals and make sure they are not nuisances.  I am sure in any case the last thought people have is wondering if by owning this/these animals if it will cause any issues where they live in regards to others privacy and peace.

If the ordinance really does go into effect at 9pm... That's pretty jacked.  We had neighbors that had several large dogs and they would bark NON STOP throughout the day.  Sometimes literally for 3 hours straight or more.  I don't care if it's "daytime" that's just not appropriate for neighborhoods.  The estrogen factory portion of my marital contract had the swine flu last year, and was unable to get hardly any sleep during the day because of the barking animals.  Sure it happened at 11pm and 4am also and that would wake us up and that sucked...  In general, the non-stop barking dog is insulting.  It tells you personally from your neighbor "hi neighbor, I don't give a rats ass about you.  the end."

If I had it to do again, I would probably handle it more intensely.  However, just like in the NFL, the reactionary figure is typically the one that gets busted.  It would have been fun to blast loud music or something for 3 hours straight when they got home.  But I have too much respect for humans in general to bother anybody else that would also have to hear the music.

I should of wrote it with a little more sarcasm. I just thought 11 hours listening to a dog bark would of drove me nuts. The main thing is to at least give your neighbor a chance to take care of this issue. Some people are oblivious.

SOME people are oblivious???

How about the whole freakin' country? Today I passed someone on Sam Rayburn going 35 in a 70 zone, busy talking on his cell. As I was going 70, a BMW passed me going over 90, and he was talking on his cell. On Hwy 75 I passed a slow mover who was so busy texting that he didn't realize he was only going 40, in the left lane no less.

Michael Vick gets kudos from Obama and many regard him a hero, despite what he did to those dogs, oops, I mean dogz.

We're doomed as a society. I once said the glass was half full, but now, I think it's 3/4 empty.

Ok, I understand the point! Take your hand off the hot burner or you are going to get burned even worse.

I also agree that the city ordinance starting at night but just be for disturbing the peace but perhaps during the day it is noise pollution.

It should be up to owner to have the guts to report this problem to the HOA.  Give them minimal time to rectify the problem, then report it to the police.  There should be a noise oridance on the books.  Has any of the neighbors specifically spoken to this neighbor as a (neighborly) chat?
