Does any thing good happen in Oak Hollow?
« on: March 18, 2011, 07:14:56 AM »
My husband and I came to Oak Hollow last week and are thinking about signing a lease w/option to buy, but after reading all of the posts, not sure if Oak Hollow is the place for us.  With all of the wild, parentless children and animals running around at all hours of the day and night, maybe we should stay in McKinney with the traffic and congestion?!  We were hoping to find a nice neighborly area with friendly people and a sense of community...it that what we will find when we get to O.H.?

Look in Pecan Grove.
Quiet, great neighbors, and low congestion

I live in The Falls. We like our immediate neighbors, but if I had to do it over again, I would buy in Pecan Grove or West Crossing in that order. Or -- maybe not in a development. There is a lot of land around here.

My husband and I moved here from Mckinney and we love it. We have lived in Oak Hollow for a year a half and haven't have any real problems that you wouldn't have in any other neighborhood. We like all of our neighbors and I feel safe and that our children are safe as well.

Pecan Grove and West Crossing are quiet now, but they won't stay that way.  Both of those neighborhoods have much more land mass than The Falls or Oakhollow.  The builders just went bankrupt.  But I have seen some activity and expect to see builders come back again soon.

I know lots of peeps who live in Oak Hollow and love it.

Remember you typically only hear from complainers.  People that are happy stay pretty quiet.

Pecan Grove is not without its adult entertainment, but its like belonging to a very exclusive club which rocks really hard.  Go me.

We moved to the Hollow last year. Wife HATES it. I can tolerate it. Would I do it over again? No. But when we were looking for a single family rental there were slim pickings, and we sold our house in Allen in 1 day so we had to scoot. North end of the Hollow looks like bad Choice-built homes, very small lots, siding on 3 sides versus brick. South end are Pulte, brick on 3 sides, better quality, but same problems that plague us: some neighbors are downright rude, unfriendly, they actually shun us. It can be weird at times. A few are very friendly, but for the most part there's a lot of meanness here. All we did was move in and reach out to our neighbors, going door to door to introduce ourselves. Some of the reactions we got shocked me. Downright rudeness. Many of the homeowners seem to think it's ok to leave trash, yard waste, etc out all year. Park broken down trucks in the driveway or street. In no way am I a snob but face it, there's a lot of white trash here. I can't vouch for the other areas like Pecan or the Falls. Although in Pecan you've got D and E, so it can't be too bad. E would pour you a glass of fresh Boxo wine if you visited.

At one time I was so pissed we didn't buy in Pecan Grove.  Didn't know anything about it until it was too late.  Then I found out how much the HOA dues were.  I learned to be very happy in Willow Creek :)

Doesn't matter where you buy, the houses are built by the same people regardless of who the builder is.  Maybe the foreman works for a company, but they are all contractors.  Quality of material may be options and at that point the consumer is going to pay for it.  All the base model homes are with the cheapest material.  I didn't opt for brick on all three sides as from a maintenance perspective and longevity the concrete siding seemed to be the better option.  Now I did opt for the "real" ceramic brick on the front instead of the "fake" concrete brick which is probably on the majority of homes.

You get adult drama in any subdivision, white-trash or not.  We moved to OH in 2004, we have issue that you would have living next to any bunch of neighbors, as has been already said.  With the exception of our neighbor who tries to put, qty 4: 150lbs of dog in a small back yard, in a rubbermaid shed, you take the chances of running into ignorance and stupid no matter where you move.

Yea, Mr. Bitey!  Loved that bit of reading E.

I don't think anyone subdivision is better than the other, white trash and uppity is everywhere!  Just count yourself lucky if you don't end up by it.

Oak Hollow isn't so bad.  ;D  We've been here seven years and have had little trouble. There are some bad apples as in any neighborhood, but on the whole it is relatively peaceful.

The trailer trash couple across the street have yet to mow their lawn, ah, weeds. About 3 feet high. I don't care how poor you are, anyone can cut their grass!
The guy next door seems to have disappeared, leaving trash all over his back yard, and front yard to boot. Entire yard is a work in progress, with no progress. Again, why does someone just leave sh*t all over the place? It's got nothing to do with economic class, income, education. Just dumb laziness.
Oak Hollow is simply the best! Only thing missing are double wides.  With all the vacant lots it's only a matter of time.
