Is Oak Hollow safe?
« on: November 25, 2011, 11:09:08 AM »
We moved here almost a month ago and I have read so many alarming posts about burglaries, rape, etc. is this a safe neighborhood for a family with young children or are some posts just the typical paranoia?

We lived there for a year. There is petty crime there but it's not like it's Oak Cliff or Red Bird. Best thing to do is to get to know your neighbors so everyone can look out for each other. I'm a nosy SOB so I watched out for our street from my office in the front of the house. Whenever I saw something amiss, suspicious, etc., I called the police. Even if it turns out to be nothing I think they appreciate citizens keeping their eyes open. They can't be everywhere.

Maybe some of the posters here know about a police neighborhood thing where the cops come out to the community to meet with and discuss crime issues.

But yes, you need to keep an eye on your youngsters, not because it's Oak Hollow, but it's 2011. Sad but true.

We watch our little one like a hawk and she never goes outside without us or our dog. We haven't had a chance to meet our neighbors on our right because they seem to be really reclusive, but our other neighbors helped us unload our uhaul and were very nice (rarely home though). We are more than capable of protecting our home and family if needed, but was curious if the things I have read were true. It seems to be more peaceful than Plano or Sherman.

When we lived there we tried to meet our neighbors across the street and they shunned us. Just outright ignored us. Literally walked away when I went to greet them. Maybe witness protection folk? Weird but I don't think Oak Hollow is all that different than any other place in Anna or Colin County for that matter. Good folks, strange folks. It is what it is. Humans are strange.

You should post their address then everyone on the forum can bring them a pie and say hello.

Ha, JEB the problem is that they don't answer their door, even after I saw them going into their house and knocked on their door.

At least I got E to respond when I knocked on his door. I'm such a trouble maker. I miss Anna.

I have lived in OH for 8 years and never had a problem.  Our neighbors once had their beer stolen from their fridge in the garage, but thats about it.  No need to worry

I've lived in OH since 2006 and only had a problem once with paintballs shot at the front door.  The only complaint is unsupervised kids & teens roaming after school and at night on the weekends. Other than that, no problems.  You can also read the police page on this website for accurate information. Welcome!

Yeah, I don't think you have too much to worry about, just don't be an idiot--lock your doors and windows when not at home, don't leave your garage door up 24/7, watch your children when they're playing outside.

Someone can find the map of where sex offenders live, none live in Oak Hollow, but there are several that live just south of Oak Hollow. I think that's on the DPS website.
