From talking to the new HOA there is going to be a lot of changes. They are a high end HOA. Hopefully no more vans parked in the streets or boats stored in the driveway. And maybe we can get real lucky and have a new pool committee that is not bigoted.
I'm a renter so I hope nobody here sees my comments as overstepping my bounds. I do, after all, plan on buying my home from my landlord this year. I just thought I'd add my own opinions for what it's worth:
I'm not going to be so anal as to demand a ruling that abolishes any and all curbside parking. However, it would be so greatly appreciated if people would park in their driveway if they have the space to do so. It is so frustrating when you have to wait for oncoming traffic simply because of so may cars parked on the street. I'm not talking about the occasional gathering at someone's home but to park in the street on a daily basis really is unnecessary.
As renters, we didn't get a passcard/key for the pool (landlord said he lost it). So the only time we've been to the pool was at the invite of our neighbors. We really enjoyed it!
I honestly have no problem with a boat being parked in a driveway so long as it isn't a rusted out, rotted out, fixer-upper piece of junk. Most people take real pride in their boats and I think it just shows our neighborhood residents as sportsmen and lovers of the outdoors. Of course, this gets back to the parking-in-the-street issue. If a boat in a driveway causes someone to park in the street on a regular basis, that would annoy me. I think if the HOA is going to ban boats in driveways, they should at least allow a boat to be present for a few days at a time for when our boaters get their boat from storage for a weekend of fishing/watersports.
I know some HOA rules can seem rather annoying and sometimes outright dumb. But as a former resident of rather uptight Houston Suburb, I can tell you that what I've heard about our Oak Hollow HOA is really small potatoes compared to what I dealt with down there. Try dealing with $500 to $1200 dues and someone dictating your strain of grass, perennials, home trim, how tall you mow your grass, what kind of car you can have on property, how you prune your trees, keeping your windows clean, keeping your driveway/walkways, siding powerwashed...need I go on? What I see here for the most part is your typical "let's all get along and keep our neighborhood beautiful" efforts. And I don't have any problem with that.
