Our Lovely HOA
« on: May 21, 2010, 10:27:01 AM »
Does anyone know who is part of the "Covenant Commitee of Homeowners"? How is this group selected? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

The reason I am asking is because Dawn is sicking these people on us! I have recently (like FOUR months ago) challenged the ACA reguarding a decision against my property. Now that I have reminded her, she is telling us our case has been appointed the Covenant Committee. Funny how she doesn't reply back unless you sound off the horns!

Maybe she meant the Coven Committee.  Its a group of nine women, in a circle - three groups of three.  I think my HOA is controlled by the same group.

HA HA
Guess I just as well open up the can of worms I have kept so tightly shut....
I am the house that has the split-rail in the front yard. The one with the, as Dawn put it "Tractor".
They have been fighting with us from day one. It has gotten to the point that no matter what we submit to her it is declined. We wanted an arbor in the back, declined that too! I have been doing EVERYTHING we are supposed to. I am challenging the BOD, have sent in that request back in FEB!! Now since I replied to her email about the pool being open to the public and homeowners who owe HOA dues (which we dont) and or fines will not get the new pool card. BS! So.... I am wanting to know how this committee is chosen.... I want to make sure it is not the friendly homeowners that were burning up Dawns phone once we landscaped our yard. Thats not fair if EVERYONE who dosen't like it shows up to vote....just not right! What happened to a fair trial????

Hey Frustrated, I have to say what your man did to your yard is a huge improvement to the sub-division.  When I would drive by during the time he was putting it up, I would stop and let him know that it was awsome.  My neigbor across the street from me as well commented on how nice it was looking and wanted him to do something to her yard.  Being that I drive by your house atleast twice a day I have not once noticed any thing bad about it.  If I had some extra money to have him do it, I would be on it "faster then sh*t coming out of a goose"  I thing the HOA committee that we have "SU*KS* and we should get someone that understands that there are people that want to make a "nice" difference in the community and then there are the ones that won't take care of their yards at ALL!  As for the tractor, that stuff is our heritage and looks awsome.  Keep up the awsome work in the yard.

I also think your yard looks awesome!!  It was done clean and classy with some Texas flair.  Love it!!!  It sets you apart from others.  I hope you did get the permits needed though before you started the project.  I have gotten everything, even my tree I planted to the shed I installed to my patio covering approved before I ever started the project.  I have heard horror stories of HOAs (not just ours) that go after people for doing everyday home improvements without first getting the permission.  I guess thats the key.  I really wish you the best of luck.  Your yard looks amazing!!!  I wish I could be more help to ya.

I look at your awesome yard every day. I wish everyone would put as much heart and soul into there yards, our community would look great. As for Dawn, she is always hateful. And she doesn't return phone call. I think Oak Hollow needs a new HOA. Good Luck with the HOA..

Absolutely LOVE what you've done to the yard! It adds a touch of class, style, artistic flare and down-home comfort. Such landscaping and decor should be encouraged, not discouraged. There is nothing more pathetic and disgusting than a stale, cold, cookie-cutter neighborhood where every damn house looks like a xerox copy of the next.

I think to some degree it is needed but I wouldn't complain about the split rail...
How about flaggin someone that doesn't have anything special in their yard instead.

Why flag anyone at all?!?!?!? I mean, seriously! So long as it isn't an old sofa, a dead washing machine, or a rusted out Studebaker, and is strategically placed to establish an individual sense of exterior decor, why do we have to bash these individuals for not fitting their star-shaped peg into the rest of the neighborhood's square hole?

Probably because that's what was not only agreed upon, but also legally signed at closing.

I appreciate everyones comments. The reason we are so upset is because she has told us one thing and has done another. Before we received a fine, like FOUR months after she said not to worry, my neighbor was watching our house during Christmas vacation and Dawn pulled up. "Hi I'm Dawn are you _______?". My neighbor said no. Dawn says oh I have been wanting to meet her. "I helped her get all of this done", pointing to our yard.
She is so ignorant when it comes to the covenance. She TRIED to get us to cut down our 8ft fence to 6ft saying it was too high. I had to point her to the section in our covenance that CLEARLY states our fencing MUST be BETWEEN 6-8ft tall. THEN she has been sending us late fines every month for the HOA dues. Again, in the covenance it CLEARLY states we all have a 10 day grace period! Our dues were RECEIVED in their office and deposited two days after the due date. Guess I have to show her that too! We had code enforcement come to our house to make sure we were within city code. They told us the split-rail is not considered a fence. It is considered landscaping and we are well enough outside the city easement line. I have heard many bad stories about Dawn and I have always given her the benefit of the doubt. However when she (they) declined our arbor in our backyard, I lost all respect. They claim they declined it because we did not attach a copy of our survey! They have a copy of our survey! It was sent in when we mailed her our ACA paperwork for the front yard. She even forwarded it to us via email. I don't get it......

I think when we're ready to buy we'll look at Stetson Ranch or somewhere outside the city limits. I can understand the logic behind an HOA but history has showed me they cause more problems and grievances than good.
