young-"uns"
« on: May 21, 2011, 12:28:34 PM »
Busy today, drove through the Hollow at least 6 times. What did I see?

Unsupervised kids playing in the streets
Under the age of 10, some under age 6, on scooters
Unbelievable!

What I'm saying, Drax, is that these are very young folks, in the street, playing (not paying attention to cars), in a neighborhood where I've seen speeding cars, pick up trucks, dirt bikes (love when they drive those bikes in the vacant lots next to my house). I saw tiny tots on scooters going through the street.

I know what you mean about helicopter parents (although not sure what you mean about "up their butts", you sicko).  ;)

I loved this morning when I drove down a street and about 5 kids about 8 years old ran out and blocked my car, waving some kind of plastic toys at me, and THEY WOULDN'T MOVE! If I had done that as a kid my parents would have allowed the driver to run me the frick over!

Helicopter parents are the ones who don't allow their kids to get anything else but an A in school, make the team, get a trophy, gold star for just trying etc. You totally misinterpreted my post. Parents who watch over their kids when playing in the street, who make them move when a car comes, those aren't helicopter parents, they're smart, caring parents who don't want their kids to wind up in the ER.

I would have to say that more than half the kids today do not know safety rules when riding a bike or anything for that matter... Not only that, seems that  the parents have the get out of my hair attitude ..and don't supervise.... or take the time to advise what right of way means..

Amen!  I have a neighbor who likes to call me a helicopter parent, I like to call him negligent.  ::)
