Recommendations.
« on: September 18, 2008, 02:45:29 PM »
I am having to give up my office to make room for our new baby. I need recommendations from y'all on what kind of laptop to get. I want to cut the cords and actually get wireless this time around.

I want a laptop with wireless and a CD/DVD burner as well. I also need about 80 gigs of memory. I hate to upgrade to vista because I do not like it but if you use windows it has to be done. I would also need extra RAM to play my favorite game of all time on, NO it is not Warcraft it is Toontown.

I am guessing that I will have $1,800 to $2,000 to play with. What brand would y'all recommend?

I have played on a Mac pro and loved it sincerely until I found out that I could not get it for my price range and specifications.  >:(

I use a Toshiba Satellite 17" screen, and I think it would have all the bells and whistles you are asking for. In a word, SICK!

There is no such laptop with 80Gigs of memory.  Storage on the other hand...  You can absolutely get a Mac Book for your price range, even most of the Mac Book pro's are within that range.

I might of meant Hard Drive instead of memory. Let me clarify. I need lots of room to store my stuff. Lots and lots of room.

Two words:  External Hard-drive

Or is that technically three words?

If I had $2k I would get a Mac.  There is no reason on this earth to get anything else for that price.

O.k. Well confession time...

My baby has stolen what brain cells God gave and left me with just enough to barely function. My budget was suppose to be $800 to $1000..

OOPS....

Now what were you saying about the Macs????

Angi helped me to remember that my my budget was actually doubly lower then what I thinking.

HP has really become a good brand, I've been very pleased with the few that I've seen in the past year.

20" iMacs from $1199 -- less if you can wrangle an educational discount.

They do nicely if you've got a few sqft to spare on a counter somewhere.
