Transparent PNG
« on: March 18, 2008, 02:21:48 PM »
Can anyone please explain why the transparent pngs I make in Illustrator, Fireworks, or Photoshop are greyscale rather than transparent in Internet Explorer?

I KNOW for a fact that IE supports transparent PNG - Just not... the ones I make.

I absolutely hate transparent PNG's.  I always have a mountain of trouble with them.  Sorry I am no help, just commiserating!

Which type of PNG are you creating? 8 or 24? Do you have the transparency set to show as a color? Check your settings. In Illustrator and Photoshop use "Save for Web" and look at all the settings. that is usually where I would run into problems. Especially with IE.

PNG-24 with Transparency checked.  Non-interlaced. Anti-alias.  Looks beautiful in FF/Opera/Camino/Safari

Though I will admit to having saved from Illustrator as 'Export' instead of Save for Web.
