Coldest room in the house!
« on: February 07, 2012, 01:57:49 PM »
Just curious if anyone else in the falls suffers from one room in their house that feels like there is a 20 degree difference in temperature? Our bedroom is on the north end of our house and is seriously cold compared to the rest of the rooms in the house. I have been up in the attic and checked the insulation and duct work but everything looks okay. I heard that someone in the falls had a house that was missing the insulation in one outside wall of there living room and had to have someone come out and take down the sheetrock and put in insulation. I am almost ready to believe that.
Thanks

maybe your room is haunted and not the rest of your house......or it could be an insulation problem ☺

I've heard about this issue before and it's usually an issue with the duct work. Cheapest way to fix is to get a small space heater. Only need to use it a few months in Tx.

Now what about in the summer? Do you have too much heat in the room? Then you know it's an insulation issue.

Another thing to try is to take a drill and drill into the outer wall sheet rock. If the drill pulls out pink stuff, it's got insulation. Then it's easy to repair the hole.

My back bedroom was freezing in the winter and hotter than Hades in the summer.  Apparently the duct was not long enough to go all the way to the back bedroom so they left it like that blowing my heat and my air into the attic.
I had my A/C guy doing a tune-up and he found the issue. He did a quick fix and low and behold the room became as temperate as the rest of the house.
just sayin...

Many of the houses in Anna are part brick and part siding. Our master bedroom gets cold because it is the only room with siding outside. I added blown in fiberglass on top of the cellulose a couple of years ago and it really helped the entire house. But before I added it, I went up in the attic, racked the cellulose back from the edges and installed about a two foot insulation batt between each joist, all around the perimeter and racked it back in. This kept it  from spilling into the eves when I added more. Another thing is to add "great stuff" foam  outside behind  the bottom siding board. Reach under it and feel the gap.Air tends to blow in in under the lower wall sill plates. This is just one of the reasons I perferred brick over siding when I brought my house. I have closed some of my register vents about half way in other areas to divert more heat into the cold areas. Hope this helps!

MY MASTER SUITE IS THE ONLY ROOM OF OUR HOUSE THAT IS NOT TWO STORY, AND STICKS OUT ALONE INTO THE BACK YARD... I THINK THAT IS WHY IT IS COLDER THAN THE REST. WE USE A SPACE HEATER.

Thanks! Now that it is spring/summer I will probably look in to doing that.

Yes!  We do not have equal distribution of heat or cool air in our house.  Master bedroom, especially, will not cool down in summer months.  We have a Pioneer, Chase floor plan.  My dad was an AC man.  I would have loved to see how the air ducts were ran in this house.  I'm betting poorly.
